joel's eg33 legacy build

Recommended Posts

so the svx lives now and runs great. the fuel pump was shit but i bypassed it with a pressurized canister set up and it fire right up. yay for that. so on with the build.

goals for this build will be to build a nationally competetive auto-x car, an occaisional rally-x car and and all around good performance vehicle. i would like to be able to keep up with the m3's that are local to my auto-x region.

the ej25 is a decent engine but i have always felt (from day one) that it just doesn't have the guts to really be in the legacy. and just like everyone else, i too had planned on an ej-something turbo swap. but then i saw akmed's gc8 over at dirty impreza. totally changed my mind. with that kind of build, we are talking skyline material. this made me very interested. and after much dismay in trying to obtain an eg33 i finally scored an entire svx for $400. it did not run and trans is shot. towed it 120 miles home and had it running in 10 mins. so now that i know the engine is good and all the electronics work properly, its clobbering time.

day one pull the engine and harness from the svx.

Not that I've found. 555 is the largest direct fit.

So, you're pretty much hosed on the E85 then. :( That kinda sucks.

My 9.3 cups EJ22 makes me feel like my **** is 2.8 decimeters!

as far as i know. you can go custom on the rails to adapt whatever injector you want. i've thought about this for future purposes. bumping up to an 850cc or so just for e85 but currently i cant see the cost < effective gain right now. so, i'll leave that up to a future date.

radiator i havent committed to totally. my idea was since my lower rad support is bent, to cut it out and make a dropped one (with skid plate) out 120 wall dom. this would drop my existing radiator down and forward. bac5.2 mentioned this idea after i had already thought of it. i would eventually like to have the entire front end mounted on a tubular structure for easy removal but i believe that may just be a pipe dream. (no pun intended)

as for forged internals, yes they are on the list. havent decided if i want to go ahead and build the turbo set up now, or wait till after i have everything good and running and just build up another short block w/ lower compression. we'll see on that front.

the upside to doing it na first is that i don't have to worry about going stand alone and all the headache that goes along with that initial install but the down side is more wrench time. but i've got plenty of that so i'm leaning towards that route.

video from yesterday should be up shortly as soon as i get this sony program loaded on my laptop.

I washed all the grime off of the engine. Found somebody's nest under the intake. And started pulling the harness today. But that's all for now as I gotta go home and spend time with the wifey.
