apexi Posted March 3, 2018 Share Posted March 3, 2018 On my '09 it has always been the throw out bearing that goes bad before the clutch disc, I think that's true for other 5MT owners here as well. The first TOB went at around 98k, it started sounding like bad belt squeal. I think I replaced the second TOB too early, but I was paranoid after hearing stories about the damage it can do the the transmission snout if it completely fails. So I replaced the second one at around 155k. It didn't sound like bad belt squeal that time, but there was a strange noise that would either go away, or start when I pushed the clutch pedal in. I also have a bad habit of resting my foot on the clutch pedal when driving, which might prematurely wear the TOB out. However, it seems like everyone has TOB issues, seems like they always wear out before the clutch disc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
