It's going to be about 5000-6000 depending on how much work you DIY.

We need more info. What are your goals for the car, just a DD or how much more power do you want ?

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

out of curiosity how was the car as far as recalls go? Had they removed the oil filter screen?

What do you mean by "blown shortblock"? What EXACTLY was wrong with it that they found? hammered bearings? piston failure? etc...

To accurately assess what happened we need to know everything that you've been told thus far, and if you dont know exactly, I'd question everything until you're shown what they're basing their evaluation on.

We also need to make sure that you trust the person giving you this info.

snap some pics of the damage...unless you have holes in your block, you might get away with a cheaper fix. Max Capacity has it about right on cost to rebuild. More or less depending on how long it has to run to sell it..buyer beware and all.

If you are going to sell it, keep it stock. If you have a low mileage car, you might be able to negotiate a sale without rebuilding it.
