2.2 w/ egr swap

So, this may have been covered previously, but I didn't find a definitive answer. So I apologize if this is a repeat.

I have a 97 L 5spd that I've pulled the blown motor out of. I have another 2.2 from an automatic that I'm planning to put into it.

The automatic engine has egr where as the original 5spd motor did not. Will it be fine to just put it in leaving the egr in place? Will it just sit inactive? Or do I HAVE to swap the intake? I'd rather not swap the intake if I don't need to.

The iac and all looks to be the same, the only difference I see is the egr system.

swap the new engine as is (except for the fly wheel of course)

the ECU is not looking for info from the EGR,

so regardless of what the EGR is doing,

the computer does not care.

You have to plug the egr port hole on the head. I had to cut the egr pipe that connected to the head and weld it shut on my friends impreza, unless you can find a bolt to plug it

If i was to swap the intake, then yes I would need to plug the hole.

Are you using an egr equipped engine to a non egr car? If so, you will need to plug the head since the egr pipe is connected to the head to the intake manifold.

not if he keeps the egr intake on the egr head and installs the engine whole.

the egr pipe is in place , there are no open holes.

In the event you want to get rid of the egr manifold, you can use an m16 oil drain plug from an auto parts store to plug the hole in the head. The one I got has a long magnetic end that I had to grind down to thread all the way into the head.

Update:

So I got it installed in the car, and it ran great! No issues caused by the egr.
