KND
Why do so many guys go with a catted downpipe. They are an extra $150 to $200 over the cattless. Must be a good reason.
RooTBeeR
Some people say catless smells, some people need the cat to pass whatever inspection their state has, some people just prefer the way the exhaust sounds with it. Whatisit
i opted for a cat as i dont really like the stink of un catted. I payed more, get less power, but in exchange its quieter and slightly better for the air.
Redslaya
couple reasons to why people get catted 1) pass emissions. you will not pass emissions with a catless downpipe unless they are blind and cant smell 2) smell. catless smells bad and is bad for you. the extra gasses a cat normally removes or changes are now flowing freely and you can smell it 3) sound. catted will be a smoother sound and also wont 'pop' and 'crackle' as much
MrTris
3) sound. catted will be a smoother sound and also wont 'pop' and 'crackle' as much This is one of the biggest reasons, aside from sound. Loud exhaust is cool for like, a week. After that, it gets old real quick.
Flinkly
All of the above, plus there is tuning reasons to have SOME backpressure after the turbo, and the cat provides that, mostly in a free-er flowing exhaust as it seems you desire. Also, it's better for the environment. Think about your kids, or future kids. Holla
Regardless of if you have inspections or not, cat less is illegal. It will be easier to sell your car with a catted DP. The future buyer may need to get it inspected.

BradM2323
I am in the market for a DP and have been debating the same things. Does anyone have any recommendations/link for catted vs no-catted dp's?
MTBwrench
Here in Illinois, my bosses Forester has had catless downpipe/magna flow cat-back for the last 80k miles, and he hasn't had any problems with emissions... The future buyer may need to get it inspected. Instates wher they just do a OBD2 scan to see if you monitors are ready, it wont matter, you will pass inspection. And its easier to sell the car by going back to stock, and selling the DP separately.
