Failed Smog (California)

I cannot believe it, I failed smog, and nothing was tampered.

 

According to the smog place my GT should have a secondary cat, and an air pump. Is this right?

I think they are confused about what kind of car it is.

There is no secondary cat stock. I just popped out to my garage to look at my stock pipes that are leaning against the wall. There is a cat in the J pipe, nothing in the intermediate pipe, a resonator in the mid pipe, and the cans. That's all.

I call steaming BS. Perhaps they could show you the location of this cat in the parts diagrams from Subaru.

We don't have a secondary air pump or a 2nd cat. I saw this problem crop up on the Bay Area Subaru Group Facebook page, another guy with a 2010 failed also because of the same issue. On the 2010's, the emissions sticker under the hood says that there should be an air pump, and I think a second cat. It is different than mine on my 2012 which doesn't specify the air pump or the 2nd cat. I think Subaru screwed the pooch here and placed the wrong information on that emissions sticker for the 2010 GTs, contact SOA.

This is the one from my 2012 GT. Notice that "AIR" is not listed in the emissions equipment list.

Basically I cannot smog my car and they said I have to go to a referee. I guess I will contact SOA. Edited July 20, 2016 by JLGT

Try a 2nd smog shop.

Is your car modded? Cuz I know a guy...

That's the PRIMARY air pump.

The engine is the primary. The turbo is the secondary. Then put a dummy o2 sensor after the resonator and say it's a cat. Problem solved. Lol

That's an exhaust diagram for "the other" Subaru turbo layout.

That looks more like a '10 WRX exhaust.It seems like you could get somewhere since that doesn't even represent your car's layout.

I would try a second shop first and if that does not work see if SOA can get you another sticker. Ref is the last option, but would work for sure

My 05' LGT had 3 cats lol, it was too many.

Maybe go visit your local dealer's parts department and talk to them to see if that sticker was revised already. Their system should show a revision to the part number if it was. Maybe Subaru already caught the mistake and they can just order you up a new sticker. Take your car, they will need the VIN.

I would call them out on their diagram not matching the OEM's or the layout of your vehicle. That's their problem, not yours.

Technically it is his problem not theirs, lol. He needs the smog certification and they provide it.

Talked to the local guy and he just took it to the dealer and had them smog it.

I guess, that's the plan then.
