Jags
Hello all, This is something that I've been wondering, from reading all the posts it seems like the front diff is supposed to have 75W-90 gear oil in it. My legacy on the other hand seems to have ATF in it's front diff, now I had the vehicle given to me by my brother n law so not exactly sure if it was replaced by him or not but he didn't drive it much. It drives perfectly fine with no issues, no noises other than lower control arms knocking, shifting fine etc. Should this be any concern?
Berge56
Change the fluid with fresh 75-90 gear oil and see if the ATF tint comes back. If it does you could have a leak inside the transmission.
Jags
Well, I went ahead and checked it again, smells like gear oil but has a tint of red. Could just be me though, still probably wouldn't hurt to change it out in the future. Though if it were to be leaking inside the trans is this something I should be concerned about or no? xavdefr
The ATF fluid is for automatic gearbox The 75w90 oil is for manual gearbox, front diff (automatic) and rear diff

All_talk
Like Berge said, check the level of the AT section. You could have a leak that is passing ATF form the trans into the diff section of the transaxle.
