i used the bracket and the relay. on black friday the bracket was free with the horns. I like it. Puts the horns right up there. The relay worked pretty well with the harness but isnt needed. You can easily make your own harness.

Harness isn't necessary if you have any kind of electrical experience. I just did mine yesterday and didn't have any trouble. I just followed the install chart that I found here on a search.

Just get a bunch of these to fit onto the posts of the relay and the horns and some wire and you're good to go.

It's cool; I'm with the band

I used a relay because I wanted the horns to be able to draw as much current as they can. They are plenty loud.

The relay doesn't amplify the horns. The stock horns run through the same 12v current like the hella tones. I have heard other with hellas horn with the relay and they sound just as loud as mine.

Incorrect.

Voltage and current are very different things. Thin wire has higher resistance when trying to flow high current. 18 gauge wire has 4 times the resistance of 12 gauge wire.

Higher current means louder horns. Through wire, higher current means higher temperatures, and resistance is the enemy. My horn wiring runs cooler, and is more efficient, than using the stock wiring. Plus, if something were to go wrong, the horn circuit is completely independent of the cars circuit (save a single wire, used to trigger the relay).

A while back, I back-fed checked the voltage and current drop for the headlight harness on my old Forester. The difference between the aftermarket harness I built and the stock wiring was substantial.
