specialB
So in the setting of the navi equipped legacies, there is an option to calibrate the speed of the car by using its gps technologies. Now I wonder if I change my tire size with a new set from 225/40-18 (very skinny sidewall) to a 225/50-18 with a .9" (7.1%) larger diameter than the old set if I could recalibrate my speedo accurately by using that tool. bmx045
I figured navigation uses satellite triangulation to determine speed, no?
SCHM1AN
If you ground one of the empty connectors on the nav unit to your seat, you can access the system info and it will display the current speed of your car, so yes, the gps uses triangulation to determine speed... HOWEVER, my nav doesn't match up with my speedo (running 225/45/17 instead of 215/45/17). It's off by a mile/hr or two which means the speedo in the dash runs off of the hall sensor in the wheel To answer the OP's question, I have no idea what the distance calibration does
specialB
From the link that underground posted it does seem that's it's just for when the signal cuts out so the unit can still run properly. So the Speedo may be off but is calculated correctly in the Nav system
