Brake Fluid

Recommended Posts

Any fresh (i.e. unopened container) DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid is appropriate. If in doubt, check the Owners Manual. Subaru doesn't schedule brake fluid change until at least 30 months/30,000 miles, and if you live in a dry climate you should safely be able to go considerably longer than that. Of course, changing fluid early won't hurt anything but your wallet ... unless you use the wrong fluid. Edited by ammcinnis

DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 can be used. But 5.0 is silicon based and shall only be used for special applications.

Personally I would only go for 4 and 5.1.

For other vehicles always check what the cap on the container states since some vehicles can use mineral oil instead. I have seen that on a farm tractor.
