Shazzam121
I noticed a metallic rattle under boost, and pulled my downpipe to check out the turbo. It doesn't look good to me, but this is my first turbo car. Do these pictures look like a turbo that needs to be replaced? Thanks EDIT: After the noise started, I checked the amount of boost I was making. It was about 3 psi lower than I'd been making a couple days before. http://i.imgur.com/qETH0zR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/U9FpVmz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/yd5EhtT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/47qKBcy.jpg
utc_pyro
It's done, stop driving now before you take the block with it. Start putting together your replacement plan. The sticky has a lot of good information about what to do.

I've got this plan to see how bad everything else is:
utc_pyro
I'd change the order slightly, mostly based on how easy/hard it is to do certain thing while others are apart. From your post history it looks like you changed the turbo inlet before, and you've pulled the downpipe yourself, so you're 75% of the way to taking the whole thing out and DIY'ing it. Step 1: Drain oil, look for sparkles to get an idea what you're dealing with. If you don't see ANYTHING you can probably follow the original plan. If there is anything at all in there (or you want to keep the car long term) plan on pulling the pan to clean it and doing the oil cooler. Step 2: remove turbo Step 3: remove banjos and flush the turbo oil system while the turbo is out of the car. It's MUCH easier to get to then. From there clean everything out and follow the rest of your plan. If you want to go faster this is the time for the BNR 16G ($850 new) or VF52 (varies used, $$$ new). Both can run with the stock injectors if tuned conservatively, but can also turn into a money pit of "while I'm at it".
Gex
Using a coffee filter to strain the oil can help find the glitter. Also may not hurt to chop open the oil filter. I would also recommend you send an oil sample to Blackstone labs. As for the original question. Yes, your turbo impeller has noticeable deformity. You did the right thing to park it as that turbo is toast. Also, you pulled the downpipe with the top mount on?! Damn, that must have been a tough squeeze on those upper bolts. ragman
Do you have lots of movement in the turbo's propeller shaft?
