Q300 Exhaust Tip Length Solution for Wagon Owners

Recommended Posts

Wanted to share a solution I found for all the wagon owners (usdm/oem bumper) out there with the Q300 exhaust and tucked tips. Found some perfect sized slip-on exhaust tips that look better than the Q300 tips as well...at least imo. No longer have to worry about melting my bumper more then it already is. :icon_chee

I have them pushed on as far as they will go and they are very snug while technically not even being 'fully seated'. No clamps, no screw/bolt to hold them on and have never had to adjust them.

Posted this in the wdydty4glt thread, but posting here too.

The burger tips in the OP are no longer available, but Dave directed me to these alternatives: https://www.amazon.com/ESPEEDER-Pair-Muffler-Exhaust-Pipes/dp/B0757K9KZM.

Installation only required rubber mallet as pictured. Total for all 4 tips was $55, so not a bad deal even if the rust to bits in a year.

Zero change in sound I think. If anything, it's made it more articulate. But I like the "drone." I rarely have other people in the car, and radio is only maybe 40% of the time?

Windows down/sunroof open and audible exhaust is a great combo for me. I get to bounce back and forth between dat boxer rumble yo and inner monologue.

What DPs are both of you running? I've got very minimal if any drone and running the GS catted/limited.

The shop and I both thought the exhaust was slightly quieter with the tips on but that could easily be a placebo effect. There's random days when I think the car is running louder or quieter than usual.

Invidia catted on both cars. At least I think I had already changed the wagon to a catted DP before the Q300.

The Spec has always had a catted DP. I do get a little popping from the Q300 during shifts at times.

Interesting. I get some pops when shifting as well but only when I'm flooring it and shifting close to red line but even then it rarely happens. I will get light burbles/pops on decel in 1st & 2nd the majority of the time though. Really love it when I'm in navigating a parking lot next to a wall or building and hear it even more. Never ran catless.

Exact same DP here. Idk, maybe I don't have any drone. I've never been in a car where someone pointed out, this is drone. I've been in obnoxiously loud and reverberating cars, I don't think my wagon is either. I do know the exhaust is always audible. I know some people prefer to not hear it if they're just cruising under low load.

I also get the pops on command and during certain shift scenarios. I wonder if that's more to do with an unfinished rich tune. Otherwise known as the burble snap/crackle/pop tune.

I'm not so sure the popping is Tune related in my case, the tune is by one of the best. He did mention that there could be a leak at one of the joints letting in cold air.
