ammcinnis
Any fresh (i.e. unopened container) DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid is appropriate. If in doubt, check the Owners Manual. Subaru doesn't schedule brake fluid change until at least 30 months/30,000 miles, and if you live in a dry climate you should safely be able to go considerably longer than that. Of course, changing fluid early won't hurt anything but your wallet ... unless you use the wrong fluid. gathermewool
DOT 5.1 is also fine. Why are you spending so much on brake fluid??? '15 FB25 Magnatec 0W-20 + FU filter (70,517 miles) RSB, Fr. Strut Bar, Tint, STI BBS, LED er'where

ehsnils
DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 can be used. But 5.0 is silicon based and shall only be used for special applications. Personally I would only go for 4 and 5.1. For other vehicles always check what the cap on the container states since some vehicles can use mineral oil instead. I have seen that on a farm tractor. waldguy
I live in a dry area and saw no need to change the fluid at the 30,000 mile mark. I test the brake fluid for moisture at each oil change for a quick check. Will reconsider at 60,000 miles.
