stefan
Hi, I was looking to see if anyone has installed the Whiteline rear differential bushings on their Legacy? I helped my brother-in-law install them on his WRX and it went pretty smoothly. On the my legacy I just paid $50.00 to have a Subaru specialist install them. I tried to do it myself but the clearance between the diff. bushings and the lower trunk panel made it such that I would need to get some better tools. Anyway ... to my question. On my brother-in-law's WRX the diff bushing inserts were recessed. When I peaked under my car (Legacy), the diff bushings are protruding about an 1/8th of an inch from the cross-member. Did the mechanic properly install these? I haven't observed any negative effects ... just visual inspection doesn't match my expectation. Thanks
Max Capacity
You can't compare one bushing to the next. Some are different then others. $50.00 was worth it. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Leonardo
Yes, they stick out just a bit. My walk-through: Take off the nut with a 17mm dogbone wrench (helps if its ratcheting like mine). http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00594.jpg You can see they look like they match!!!! http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00596.jpg Helps a bit if you lube it before shoving it in. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00597.jpg IT FITS!!!!! http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00598.jpg Put the washer on and replace the nut and tighten. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00599.jpg Repeat on the other side. http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii248/Leonardocal/DSC00600.jpg
Max Capacity
Oh, so these are inserts not a whole bushing ? That looks like it should take about 15 minutes to do. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Leonardo
like 10 to 15 from start(putting car on ramps) to finish (hanging up keys).
stefan
Thanks for the reply Leonardo. That's exactly how mine look. The ones I installed myself on a WRX are quite recessed and that's what led me to ask the question. As a side note, the ones I have installed didn't take me 10-15 minutes ... took about a solid hour. I installed them using jack-stands and getting the leverage to crack those bolts takes some doing without the advantage of a lift. Additionally, the provided grease doesn't mean these things just slide right in. In fact I had to work them for a little while and then use the included washer to get them all the way in once I could start threading the nut back on. In principle it's a simple job ... but I'd bet on quite a bit more time if you don't have a lift. Thanks again for the photos.
dustincredible
like 10 to 15 from start(putting car on ramps) to finish (hanging up keys). Nice! I checked the Whiteline website and unfortunately they do not make these for our car. Unless, I'm wrong? Kylar
Did you guys notice any difference? Anyone have a link of a good place to buy these for the best price?
stefan
Kylar/dusincredible I did notice a difference. It's not as if the car is suddenly an F1 racer, but at slower speeds the power transfer feels noticeably more linear. I'm sure this would only be improved further if I got a stiffer transmission mount or pitch stop (if you have either of those then this mod might fail to impress). However, for $30.0 purchased ... I was quite satisfied. As for where to purchase. I got mine from rallitek.com. I recommend rallitek for there good customer service and they seem to already have a nice presence on these boards. I should have thought of Rallitek...duh...haha I have their springs. I was going to go with their trans mount insert but it looks like they dont make it anymore? Max Capacity
The tranny mount was one of the first things I did to my car back in 04. The STI mount is what I have. It stopped the tranny movement during high rpm shifts. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. stefan
Dustincredible - if you have a mechanic install them for you then Leonardo's advice is spot on. Don't let someone charge you for more than 1/2 an hour. My guy is pretty honest and that's all he said it would take.
bmx045
They diff mount bushings like the front control arm/a-arm bushings for the legacy...any idea on whether or not they'd fit for them? gaining some stiffness up there?
grmorrow04
The rear diff inserts won't work in the control arm bushings. I don't believe that there are any inserts for the front control arm bushings; just replacements (Group N, Superpro, Whiteline, etc).
ndebt
Will these work just as well if the stock bushing is torn? I've searched periodically for a replacement polyurethane one to press-in, but haven't found anything but these inserts....
blackinches
sorry, thread revival, but had a question about the install. so for the legacy only 2 of the inserts are used right? the other 2 are only meant for the wrx.
burnout8488
07+ Legacy uses the 2 extra diff carrier bushings... or so we think. 05 definitely does not, 06 probably not. Just get under and check. If you can verify that your 06 does or does not have the holes for the carrier bushing inserts, then the forum will know for future buyers. Leonardo
05-06 does not, 07 probably as it could have been a mid year change to get them in the 08-09.
Ghostride
Has anyone done a aet of the one piece bushings? Whiteline # KDT906 the inserts seem simple enough but i bought the solid bushings and wonder how hard it will be to get the new bushing in. I also Have the KDT905 for the front of the rear diff. they seem simple enough because it's two pieces that gets pressed in from both sides. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
