After Market Headlights - OEMassive/DTMoto vs. Eagle Eye vs. Anzo

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Black housing headlights are an upgrade I want to do in the near future to my car, and being that I lack the tools, know-how and confidence to modify them myself, I was looking for some feedback on the various swap-in options I've run across. I'll start out by saying that the U-Bar would be my preferred style choice, but are more cost-prohibitive.

OEMassive/DTMoto ~$250

These options popped up recently as an extremely affordable replacement option to get black headlights. I have not seen anybody on the forums with these yet to confirm fitment and quality, and am heavily considering taking the plunge on these to report back with, considering I can afford them pretty much straight away the next time I go on call at work, and would be easier to bounce back from if they turn out to be poor quality.

Another caveat of these is that if I find out they're actually good build and fit, I could probably sell them without too much trouble to upgrade to the U-Bars in the future.

I am unsure the difference between the OEMassive and DTMoto options. They look virtually identical from what I can tell, same price point too. This package popped up with both lights and 6k HID conversions included for only about $245 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/172241462674

Eagle Eyes vs. ANZO - U-Bar Halo ~$400-$450 vs. ~$700-$800

Eagle Eyes - http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-14-Subaru-Outback-Legacy-i8-Style-U-LED-Black-Housing-Projector-Headlights-/171865183287?fits=Year%3A2010%7CModel%3ALegacy&hash=item2803f69437:g:bEwAAOSwMmBVrZDm&vxp=mtr

ANZOs - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Anzo-USA-Projector-Headlight-Set-w-U-Bar-Halo-Black-Outback-Legacy-111285-/301907119872?fits=Year%3A2010%7CModel%3ALegacy&hash=item464b110f00:g:q88AAOSwxcRW8tZ2&vxp=mtr

This option is more of a check to see who has what and what their experiences have been. From everything I can tell, the Eagle Eyes are a Taiwanese clone of the ANZOs, priced about $300-$400 lower.

These would be my preferred option style-wise, but I am looking to find out if there's any particular reason I should opt for the ANZOs over the Eagle Eyes, and if there's an particular reasons to avoid the Eagle Eyes. I've seen plenty of U-bar lights on the forums, but physically, they look almost identical, so I'm unsure who has which.

Who has what of these, and what has your experience been so far? I apologize if these exact questions have been answered before, I did some searching and couldn't find what I was looking for. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

I had a set of Eagle Eyes headlights on my WRX. Generally decent headlights, but one of my housings developed a leak after just about a year. Within two years, the lenses were badly clouded and needed to be sanded and polished.

Not sure what the quality of the Anzo lights are, but after that experience, I try to go with OE.

Just got my Eagle Eyes (I think, it's all Chinese writing) as you saw in the Buy thread, they look great. I'll post my install experience for sure, from what I can tell they should drop in and plug in no problem. I read that Anzo makes the Eagle Eyes, whether or not there is a difference I can't say.

The question is: which one looks cooler? :)

Anzo and Eagle Eyes are the same lights. There's plenty of cars on here running them. The DTMoto are pretty much stock lights that haven't been chromed.

The ones we all want are the techled.ru lights

There's also these which are prototype car lights

And then the Outback LED lights, which will work too.

Here's somewhat of a side shot too and also I didn't have any issues with the install and haven't had any issues for the few months I've have them http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160804/e00bbaeb6e93fb3fada92a65c523ce15.jpg

@ Humble Rumble - curious if you took the plunge one one of these sets?

@ ihazapear - how do the OEMassive compare to stock as far as beam pattern go? Quality seem good?

I'm running the stock set which are a bit fogged up...trying to decide if it's worth the cost to replace at this point.

as stated anzo and eagle eyes are the same light...anzo makes both. as far as the "outback led" ones posted...those are made for the rest of the world who have non-usdm cars so the wiring harness and plug are different. not a direct fit. you can ask Unspoken as he bought some chinese ones and have to totally rewire them in order for them to work. can be done if you kno what youre doing but i dont!

@CTGT No, I unfortunately am still on stock lights until next year likely when money permits.

I did a little more digging on the so called "Outback LED Lights" and found that there's two versions even within that style as well. As testa stated, it's almost certain that these are non-USDM spec, so the connector is not plug and play. If you're brave or electrical savvy, you can attempt the wiring changes needed like Unsp0ken did, but either way I thought I'd share my findings if it's new information to anyone.

Within the "Outback LED" design, there are two variants: the "Blade" turn-signal, and the "Blob" turn-signal (made up names, not officially called these). Other than the shape of the signal light, they differ in the number of small LEDs surrounding the outer light as well: the Blade has 16 LEDs while the Blob has 12. These appear to be two unique housing designs, with the turn signals, led positions/size/layout, and chrome fin shapes all being different. The Blade type is credited to Winpower and the Blob type credited to Hireno.

And I also managed to find a close-up of the plug for these, and it's quite a different shape from the ones on USDM, so as stated, they will require re-wiring to work.

Personally, I love the way these look, and if they were actually plug and play, I would totally consider them. But being that they're not, and being that they're both twice the price of USDM Anzos/Eagle Eyes, probably unlikely for me.

On a personal opinion, I do have to say that, of all the available styles, I think these look the most suitable for a VIP-Style build (looking at you testa :p ).

You can always get a plug that'll mate with your factory one, then cut existing plug and "wire up" your new plug, so it'll be... plug and play!

That 'Winpower' housing is interesting, you might be able to swap the projectors with Morimoto "square" ones.
