Hella 70W or Nokya 65W H7 bulbs?

Any reviews or experience with Hella 70W or Nokya 65W H7 low beam bulbs?

I've had mixed results with Nokya bulbs.

 

My H1 low beams in a 2002 Outback didn't last long at all. My 9006 fog lights are 10 years old. Not sure if I'll use them in lows again.

Not the cheapest but the best option ATM.

I've ordered a few pairs of Osrams from Daniel Stern in the past.

 

I'm asking because the Nokya is 3x cheaper and Hella 4x.

 

I'll give Nokya a try.

I am using the German Volsla 65W bulb from Daniel Stern Lighting that Grovlet stated above and I don't think it gets much better than those for halogen bulbs.

 

If you want something better, do an HID retrofit.

Easy, put a blown fuse in it's place, easy to fix for any inspection and if you're pulled over for it well you can show that it wasn't "purposefully disabled"

Agreed, 65W bulbs are only marginally better than stock, that's why I feel like experimenting with cheaper 65W

 

Indeed disabled DRL, they are not mandated in my area and the 65W have shorter life span than 55W in general.

This car is very new to me, but I thought I read that the DRL's were 50% power high beams. If that is the case, they shouldn't shorten the life of the low beam bulbs at all, and at that power, the high beams should last quite a while.

The DRLs are your lowbeams. They reside behind your projector housing. Your DRLs operate at a reduced output when compared to you turn your lowbeams (light used when night-driving) on. I haven't a clue how much but, it's noticeable.

 

Your highbeam is a completely separate bulb located in the reflector housing.

 

In all, you have three bulbs in your headlight housing:

 

1) DRLs = lowbeams bulbs (at reduced power)

2) Highbeams/"brights"

3) Turn signals/"blinkers"

^ True for 05-07 but 08-09 use the high beam at 50% for DRL. Though I think they run at like 9v so more like 75%

Hmm. The more you know. Learning something new everyday. I understood that disabling yalls DRLs was a different process, but I had no idea the 08s and 09s used different bulbs.

You've probably read that there is a blue/black wire that you need to disconnect from the white connector underneath the dash? Is there another way?

From what I had found in research:

 

2005-06: unplug white connector from DRL box in the driver footwell

2007: Cut wire

2008-09: unplug white connector from DRL box in the driver footwell

 

Doesn't hurt to check, I think you should have a DRL box behind that little trim panel on the left side of the driver footwell.

I took a glance at the footwell last night but nothing popped out at me. Will have to do some investigative hunting, maybe tonight.

Reporting back after 2 years.

The bulbs are still in the car. They put out more light than stock bulbs. The difference is not huge but it's apparent.

At $10/each, they are cheaper than anything I could get locally. I will buy these again unless I find something better for similar price.
