Carmania24
Hello All, I just wanted to ask, if I went for a twin scroll set up, would I need to get a different manifold in order to take everything work? Or will the existing manifold work? Yes I am a n00b. Thank you.
Notorious
You will need new headers and a twin scroll up pipe.
Andy_Mac
Downpipe too, plus the compressor outlet is in a slightly different position so doesn't fit too nice with USDM stock topmounts. 2000 Legacy B4 RSK - SOLD 2006 Legacy BP5 GT Spec B wagon - Garage Thread 2011 VW T5 van 2.0L of turbo diesel awesomeness
bigBADbenny
Iirc, this is true (unique up pipe turbo flange and dump pipe flange) of both stock flanged jdm STi and LGT twin scroll setups vs stock flanged single scroll cars. Jdm STi ts flanges (up and down) also being different to the jdm LGT ts flanges (the former generally allowing more flow).
Guest
There should be sticky that says please don't bother with VF38. It's even smaller than VF40. DO NOT WANT
JmP6889928
A lot of expense for no more performance BUT you get to tell everyone you have a JDM twinscroll setup, so of course, that's worth the money.
Carmania24
I know it is smaller--so there really is not point in getting a twin scroll? No power gains/performance upgrade? If that is the case then I will just get a tune.
JmP6889928
You'll gain about 100 rpm spool but lose a lot on the long end.
bigBADbenny
Its really dependent on your actual intent and budget to accomplish it. But the initial starting point is basic maintenance and a sensible tune, looking for basic upgrades along the way. Plus learning logging, LV and diagnostics with tactrix or btssm, essential if you want to know your cars current health.
Carmania24
Thanks guys. I will get a catless uppipe and save up for a tune. Upipes are like $40 on eBay.
JmP6889928
You're going from a full TS JDM kit to a $40.00 ebay catless up pipe?

Fitment issues with up-pipes have been an issue with even name brands so I would be careful.

bigBADbenny
If I were doing it again, I’d get to know the car via logging & lv, do some basic maintenance related upgrades, get a conservative tune for drivability and reliability... And save up to support whatever power level I thought appropriate to my needs. That would be a medium frame turbo on a ts mani and a built for revs 2.34 destroker lol... Maybe in another 7 years then
