JLGT
Not sure what the exact part is called, but can you take off the V-brace without supporting anything? I am thinking of powdercoating that piece. Here is a picture of my car from the pully GB. http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=199101&d=1419046769

FLlegacy
Pics of your setup would have been nice! For small parts like this a home powder coating would be awesome.
JLGT
Mine is similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Craftsman-Electric-Powder-Coat-Spray-Gun-Metal-Finisher-17288-car-boat-paint-/360964799766?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item540b2dbd16 which I purchased from eastwood almost 10 years ago. It is pretty cheap but it works decent. The fan bracket did break so I just held it in place with a few zip ties. I have powdercoated a few parts with it already with not much issue. mcg_
Any opinions on whether you can drive your car without the v-brace? I took mine to the powdercoater and am presently not driving my LGT, but I'd like to..... In other words, is there enough support without the v-brace to drive you car w/o damaging anything? Yep, that's why I'm getting it sandblasted and then powdercoated - it should be more durable that sandpaper and rustoleum.
mcg_
http://i.imgur.com/OQMpFVk.jpg Looks pretty now, right? FWIW, I've been driving my car for almost two weeks without the "v-brace," and my car has not exploded.

jojorios
Hate to bump such an old thread, but does anyone happen to have the TSB number for this? I have to bring it in for the Ebrake recall and figured I'd get this done for the hell of it.
Humble Rumble
Just saying, that blue powder-coated brace looks real nice. Thanks for the engine bay ideas. 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread
DrD123
Hate to bump such an old thread, but does anyone happen to have the TSB number for this? I have to bring it in for the Ebrake recall and figured I'd get this done for the hell of it. only applied to the 2010, then they changed the coating - the tsb number is 02-108-10 and they literally just wire brush the parts, then paint them with a rattle can of "Rust-Oleum® High Heat Black Ultra Spray Paint, available at local hardware stores" - they will charge you for it, too, since you are out of warranty... I'd just do it myself if mine were a mess.
Scubaboo
Those painted braces look purty! But darn it, I checked my car and it looks like the JDM cars dont have it. :/
GTEASER
Those painted braces look purty! But darn it, I checked my car and it looks like the JDM cars dont have it. :/Thats because the USDM 5th Gens have hydraulic power steering and a single serpentine accessory belt. Scubaboo
EDIT: looking further, yeah, even the crank pulley looks different. Ah. Our belt drives looked pretty similar in the close up pics here though, we have hydraulic power steering too, but 2 belts, AC got its own belt. It looks close enough that I think it will fit, where do the ends attach to? I see some blank threaded holes on left and right side of the upper engine they look like they would fit, and the JDM pitch stop bracket definitely has the mounting point for it. Scubaboo
Different angle, yes, different routing alright even with the hydraulic power steering. No tensioner/idler before the PS pump on the JDM. I wonder why?
