cybaster
Hi everyone, I just recently stumbled on a 2008 Spec B with a blown turbo chassis and engine 180k miles exterior seems to be in decent condition but interior have a few pieces broken the seller says that his mechanic said the turbo is blown due to oil starvation. car can run but won't build boost past 25 mph So would you guys do it? or would you pass? also if engine is in ok condition (no visible damages, cracks) would it be wise to completely drain the oil pan, baffle, replace oil cooler? anything else i should be aware of when I go check out the car? Thanks
cybaster
sorry, should've read reading the turbo failure wiki http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/turbo-failure-wiki-173358.html ------ aside from this, any other tips/info?
Shawn06SpecB
still being driven with an oil starved turbo, more than likely needs a full engine rebuild.
cybaster
as far as i know it has't been driven much after the failure i'm in the process of finding out more info and taking a look at the fluids myself as well. but its not like i can change the oil there to inspect the metal content though... sshole
If you can get the car for less than its value in scrap, then go for it. Otherwise, you'll be in for a nice surprise.
jciscott
When the turbo went on my 2008 at 140K mi, it was quick, driving home from dinner out. It started to rattle, then bang all in 10 min. I nursed it home, and found the turbo was starved for oil due to the dirty screen. The turbo bearing on the hot side locked up, and the shaft snapped. I got a new turbo, cleaned everything up and changed the oil. I am 26k miles since without incident.
