Major rear brake line failure, wasn't this supposed to be fixed in the recall?

I had quite a horrifying situation the other day when my brake pedal went straight to the floor. By the time I got out of the car there was a puddle of brake fluid on the rear passenger side of my car. Looking under the car, it was coming through a plastic cover right around the rear jack point. I pulled open the rectangular access flap and found this:

I had my rear brake line recall done last March. Does anyone know if this part of the brake line was supposed to be covered under the recall? Or what this part is even called? The whole metal piece is completed rusted. It's hard to tell exactly where all the fluid is coming out of as the fluid is splashed all over in that compartment.

Unfortunately, the recall called for subaru to inspect that area for leaks, and if it was not leaking, just clean it up and spray an anti-corrosion wax on it. A few people on here have had similar failures. The part in the picture is the joint connector. The brake lines from the front of the car connect there, and that's where they split to the left and right rear brakes.

Unfortunately, I don't think subaru will be too sympathetic in your case. I think I got the recall notice back in like, 2014 when I was living in CT (Not sure if recall time is location dependent like for the airbags, probably not for this). In some cases, they have covered the whole cost of the repair, which I think is like $2500 or $3000 at the dealer, but that's rare I think. In most cases I think they'll just cover parts, which is only a few hundred bucks, the labor is what really jacks up the price.

 

Some members here have done the repair themselves differently than subaru would do it, and I think this is the way shops would do it too. Splice into the brake lines under the rear seats, and run new nicopp (nickel-copper) brake lines down past the fuel tank to where they're supposed to go.
