Rear speakers wagon

Are the front door and rear door speakers the same size 6.5? I have a Brighton model and I don't have rear speakers so I'm buying two new ones for the front and moving the old to the rear.

Front and rear speakers in my 98 GT wagon are both 6.5". I don't know if that also applies to brightons. Be aware that some people have had clearance issues with the windows. It's best to look for a fairly shallow speaker or find some spacers.

yep, 6.5" standard.. i'd grab a .5" spacer just to be safe, most speakers ive messed with hit glass without them

you have 3" of clearance for the speakers in the doors, should be able to find a good speaker within that limit.

Anybody know if we can fit 6 3/4" speakers in the front? Seems like there are way more components available in that size and it's only 1/8" bigger in each direction.

where are you lookin? I see way more 6.5" around personally

I only had clearance issues with the front, and that was solved by unbending a tab on the window assembly. I have pictures somewhere of this.

I put some cheap Sony Xplode 6.5 in speakers in my 98 wagon. Front and rear fit with no issues.

I'm looking on Crutchfield. Thinking either Kicker CS components or Polk DXI's. Both have shallow mounting depths. Just gotta decide whether I want titanium of silk tweeters.

Yeah I put Kenwood in the front. Didn't have time yet to pull the rear door covers off and see what I need to add speakers to the rear

I'm running Alpines now... I get an insane discount with Kicker so I'm probably going to those next

I have Alpine E-series components in the front door, and E-series 2 ways in the rear door, no fitment issues or intall problems...

I have Infinity Kappa 629i in the front, Infinity Reference 6032si in the back.

So maybe that's why I had fitment issues.

I'm still running whatever Subaru put in the doors back in 1997. I replaced the head unit first and the speakers sound OK still so replacing them is further down the list.

 

They are a whole lot better than one of the original door speakers that was in the '88 Pulsar we had- all of the paper from the cone was gone except for one little piece . Needless to say it no longer worked...

the 1996 brighton doesn't have rear speakers so I would assume the 1998 brighton doesn't

You know what I thought was funny while going through that process? I replaced my head unit first and it made a huge difference in sound quality. Then I replaced all the speakers with nice polk 2 ways and the difference wasn't that big. You'd kind of think it would be the other way around.

sound quality in the HUs has increased a ton over the past 17 years, changing out the HU will make a large difference in sound quality. not to mention that any electronic device running for 10+ years will definitely sound worse than one that was brand new. i had some vintage stage monitors that had their original 13" ceramic subs still, they sounded as good at 15 years old than they did new. when i replaced them with a new sub, the sound changed overall, and didnt have the same warm sound as the old subs. the speakers will make a decent difference if your speakers are really far gone as well, but if the speakers werent crap, changing to new ones would not make huge gains.
