Waterless coolant discussion.

Recommended Posts

I'm coming up on my coolant maintenance cycle and was looking into all the issues we have with coolant. IE cross contamination from various metals (hence Subaru coolant additive), cracked radiators due to pressure not fatigue, issues due to coolant eating head gasket etc.

The crazy car guy Jay Leno uses Evans waterless coolant in his fleet of classics to avoid all these issue. :spin:

They sponsor some cars and are huge in China and Europe.

Hence wheeler dealer used them in one episode. Jay Leno's gargae he has done two episodes.

The positives seem to be

1. Higher boiling and lower freezing point

2. No electrolysis.

3. No pressure. It doesn't use pressure to increase the boiling point.

4. Lifetime never replace and doesn't evaporate.

Downsides.

1. About 3x more expensive than a normal change out.

2. Availability if something fails you will have to switch to normal till u can order more.

3. Some racing factions only allow water but i don't think u would care about this anyway.

4. Tedious to first switchover due to a max of 3% water. So u really need to remove all the old coolant.
