69800 Posted April 7, 2009 Share Posted April 7, 2009 My dealer says the 05 2.5i sometimes sets wierd codes with platinum plugs. I am due for plugs at 30k and was considering platinum. I'm guessing they changed my plugs to platinums then, because when I changed them again at 60,000 myself they were NGK platinums. I replaced them with NGK Iridium plugs after that. zcarmob Posted April 8, 2009 Share Posted April 8, 2009 I changed mine at 90k. two of them were worn down to nubs on the centers, the other two were pointy. When I pulled the plug wires off the the front drivers side and rear passenger side had oil on the boots. The other two were dry. You guys think the factory plugs are platinum?? Mabey I had better pull one and look. apexi Posted April 9, 2009 Share Posted April 9, 2009 In the legacy maintenance manual pdf i got off this site, it says the 2.5i's come with NGK fr5ap-11 plugs, which is a platinum plug. iyalla Posted April 9, 2009 Share Posted April 9, 2009 The 05's were not platinum. The Platinum plugs came with the i-active valve system in 2006. Now it is possible that all 05's that are going in for the 30k service are getting platinum plugs put in by the dealer hacks, but the owners manual does say copper for the 05. The 6 cyl and turbo's are recommended by Subaru to get them at 60k. Of all the Subaru's I have seen the past few years, I can't say we have seen that happen, nor have my techs and they have been working on them since the late 80's. You have any links?
