ericotto
Hello all, I am new to Subaru, and just purchased a 1999 Subaru Outback limited, manual, with a 2.2 engine, and it has the check engine light on, for an o2 sensor, but when I am driving down the highway, and I do more than 80 mph, then the check engine light starts flashing, when I drop below 80, it stops flashing and stays on solid. Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
johnegg
what is the trouble code numbr? pxxxx ? is there only one code?
ericotto
Yes there was only one code, I don't remember which it was, I'm pretty sure it was the front o2 sensor. I can take it in and get code read again tomorrow. I planned on replacing the o2 sensor tomorrow as well.
JBisson
In my car I've only seen the check engine light flash for a misfire Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ericotto
This only happens when I go over 80mph, and if I go back under 80mph, it stops blinking, and stays on solid, as it was/is. Only flashing at 80mph+ and I don't notice the engine feel any difference either.

JBisson
Do you have a way of scanning live data while you drive at 80+ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
johnegg
the flashing cel means there is a fault which could be / is damaging the cats. if you have a mis-fire, and raw fuel is entering the exhaust / cats, this could be it. this is why a misfire causes a blinking cel. but there are other causes as well. read the codes, all of them. post the numbers, as well as the descriptions for all of them. ericotto
Can I rent a code reader? I'm not sure the auto zone, or O'Reillys people would let me borrow, or ride along with me at 80mph+. Can a shop do it somehow?
JBisson
Most shops should have a scanner capable of doing live data reading Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sara32013
Install your FWD fuse, go to your local auto parts store, jack up your car, put it on jack stands.. set your E-brake.. start your car and accelerate.
