Hey all. So I am back in the Lego world so I figure why not start a build thread for my new car. For those that don’t know me I started here with my old 99 Legacy under the name Girodisc. I spent a lot of time making what was to me was probably my most favourite car I have ever built alongside my MR2. I ended up parting out the drivetrain for another project and then selling the body (after swapping his old Legacy drivetrain into it to get it moving) and it is currently still running around. If you recognize this car it’s because it was the Nasioc Top Scoob Winner for the Legacy’s a few years back.

After I left the Legacy world I got into Foresters. First building a Forester race car to be used for Auto X and Time attack. Just before finishing I was getting ready to move and I was about to lose my shop and space for a recreational vehicle so I part out and sold this to another guy that’s currently looking to finish it with an H6 drivetrain.

After this I got another Forester that I was attempting to make into the everything rig I needed that my MR2 could not do so I was basically turning it into a pre-runner truck. Unfortunately, my luck with finishing cars was still not going my way and I was rear ended in my MR2 which resulted in a broken wrist. After a couple surgeries my wrist was left with about 60% mobility and 50% strength and I decided to cut my losses on the Forester and let it go. I did buy my MR2 back from insurance after they totalled it out and finished it to be one of my favourite cars.

However, one of my biggest regrets was selling my Black Lego because looking back I really enjoyed that car. I was planning on dropping in an EZ30R and eventually converting the front end to a 04-05 Legacy, but obviously never got around to it. So a couple weeks ago before parting out and scrapping my “BALTFOZ” Project I bought a 98 2.2 Legacy from a friend to use as a winter daily while I decided what to do with my Forester and after I decided to cut my loses on it. Did a little to it to make it more tailored to what I was using it for (winter mountain snowboarding attack vehicle) using parts from the MR2 and Forester.

But then I did some looking around for fun and found that one of my dream cars was for sale in my town in the exact color and trim and priced very well so I took the plunge and bought her.

Shes an 08 Legacy 3.0R Limited

First off was the Snowboard Rack and then I got some BC Racing Coilovers and some 1" spacers to move the stock wheels out.

Not to bad for stock wheels the 1" spacers was perfect with no rubbing.

Then per my MO I went nuts and started planing out another build with it...

It’s a car that I have always wanted and it’s basically the car I always wanted my old Legacy to be. So with that said I starting the build thread for this car because like all my other cars I have big plans. The difference with this car is instead of me buying an older cheap (crappy) car and transforming it into something special, for the first time in a long while, I will be starting with something nice and just making it more unique and hopefully in the process even better. My idea is to make a reincarnation of my old Legacy. Like a Ver. 2.0 if you will; using the engine and front end I wanted my other Legacy to have. So for starters I will go over my plans.

Engine/ Performance:

Not going to go too crazy (for now) because the engine is already pretty stout for an everyday car but I plan to make a custom intake using 2 97-01 N/A intake pipes, dual Perrin Black Foam Filters, and a WRX 3” MAF pipe. I will need to relocate the battery to the trunk so I can put the filters just behind both headlights.

For the Exhaust I wanted to make a “true dual” exhaust with Ti Tips, but nothing is really out there (especially the header) for a reasonable price so I ordered a full engine back exhaust for a 350z. I will be modifying the header to mate up to EZ30R flanges I will have cut, and use the bends and pieces from the exhaust to re-route it for the Legacy.

The rest will be all new fluids and plugs and some tuning done by my friend at PIA to see what she will make. The future may hold a built 3.0 block and a MP90 Supercharger from a Roush Mustang that’s already been rotated to spin the right direction for our cars that I was going to use on my Baja Forester project. There is a chance I might just make the kit and sell it to do a EZ36R block swap and just leave it N/A but time will tell.

Suspension:

Already got some BC Racing Coilovers and just to see I spaced the Stock wheels out an inch to see how it would look.

Additional work will be making some adjustable arms for the front and rear so I can dial in my stance to have an aggressive look w/o car crippling camber and rubbing. Despite what many think, you can have an aggressive stance that doesn’t render the car totally useless.. Both my old Legacy and MR2 run less than 2.5 deg of camber and only rubbed slightly with a full load. No sway or strut bars on this car I still want it to be pretty plush this is my everyday car the hard core mountain pass killer is my MR2

Brakes:

This will be a fun project… I bought a full set of EVO X Brembo callipers and Girodisc rotors for a good price to just have till I figured out what to do with them and they will be going on this car. I will be having Girodisc (used to work for them) make me a set of EVO X hats with the Subaru Dual 5x100/ 5x114.3 bolt pattern and center bore as well as a new parking brake bell. I will be modifying the front hubs slightly to use the EVO X caliper (already done it once) and making a custom bracket to mount the caliper in the rear.

Wheels/ Tires:

Since my old legacy was flared using 93 Honda Civic Flares off 2 pairs of stock fenders naturally, this Legacy needs to be flared too. I have a set of really high quality FRP Flares that I will be initially bolting on and later molding in when I have time to do body work in the summer months with I am driving the MR2 more regularly. Wheels are still in the air for style because I am looking for something that doesn’t break the bank so if I curb on its not a huge devastating hit to my wallet but still gives me the VIPish Style and look I want. I ordered a set of STR 610 in gloss black 19x10.5 +35 on 265/30/19 Continental DWS Tires.

Exterior:

Aside from the flares I have ordered an extra set of headlights to pull the amber and black them out and for added flare I will be using bolt on additions to the stock bumpers to ensure a good fit. Been talking to Jason at R-Rev for parts. Here is the list.

Carbon Grill

Carbon Fog Covers

Front Lip

Carbon Mirror Covers

Roof Lip Spoiler

Rear Lip Trunk Spoiler

Carbon Eye Lids

Other Parts include:

Side Skirt Extensions

OEM Mud Flaps

Deleted Chrome Trim

Tinted Windows

Slightly Tinted Taillights

Carbon Licence Plate Frame

LED/ HID Lighting all around

Okay lets get started. First thing I did was start getting the flares on . I am using a donor set of wheels with a very close fitting to the ones I ordered which will be here Tuesday.

Front:

Rear:

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zps802fdacd.jpg

If you look closely you can see that the wheel is more forward in the arch which is an inherent problem with lowering these cars so I modified the brackets that hold the rear trailing arm/ knuckle with an extra hold that moves it back 1”

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x223/badwagon/Lego%2030r/image_zps57bf797c.jpg

This moved the wheel so at my lowered ride hieght it is in the center of the wheel arch and shouldn't have any rubbing issues with my flare or front of the wheel well.

I coupled this with a full set of adjustable arms from Megan Racing. I would have made my own with hyme joints but I like the rubber style that is in the Megans so my car doesn't make any "clunky" noises. Ones I get out and set the suspension with the new wheels I will verify the travel of the rear suspension with the modded mounts. My buddy at TSS Fab is insterested in maybe making a production piece of this so if any of you lowered Legos are interested let me know.

Thats all I have for now. I will be getting my wheels, tires, last links, and a few other parts this week. I also have a set of headlights I took apart to paint so I will have pics of those for the next post.

More to come

Thanx guys. New wheels and tires show up today. Super Excited!! I don't know if I mentioned this but 2 Thursdays ago I got rear ended in the Lego (I know!!!) and the trunk and bumper got messed up. I already ordered the trunk and bumper ahead of time out of pocket and I have an Apt for the guy to look at the damage and cut me a check on Tuesday so I need to get the car pretty much finished with the flares and fitting the wheels and tires by then. The performance stuff I will probably start after I get back from a snowboarding trip in Montana in mid Feb.

I should have some progress pics up tomorrow from tonight. After work I am picking up my wheels and tires and loading up my stock wheels into my buddies explorer. I got to get the TPMS sensors out of my stock wheels and transferred over. That’s all getting done tomorrow. I am going to try and get the flares fitted on the driver’s side, the side skirt extension mounted and my headlight housings masked and painted.

Damn man what a whirlwind ride to arrive at this beauty 3.0R Legacy. You lost your shop, your MR2 and one wrist:eek:

About that exhaust, insane! Where did you get the headers? Can't wait for sound clips. Just allow us all to live via your awesome and swap in a MT gearbox on the 4th gen H6 Legacy PLEASE! :)

Good luck!

I still have my MR2. I bought it back after they totalled it and rebuild it how you see it now. I'm driving her now while the lego is getting worked on. The headers are a cheapish set for a 350z. I have some EZ30 gaskets at the dealer I need to pick up so I can get some flanges made. I will just alter the header to line up with the EZ30 gaskets and then run the exhaust back from there.

I have been looking into doing a manial swap but its a LOT of work so I will get everything I have so far installed and drive it like that for a while. I have some stuff I want to do the MR2 this year still too for Auto X season so if I do a manual swap it will be in the far distance. I have an Eaton MP90 supercharger that seems to be calling my name more and more each day... lol maybe I'll make a lil somethin somethin when I am driving the MR2 more in the warmer months. If I did a manual swap I'd need to find an LGT tranny or something and get the pedal assy, shifter trim, linkage, driveshaft, diff etc.... I also need to look into the logistics of the ECU and find out if I need to disable and override crap or just toss it and get a Vipec V88 which I might do anyways if I supercharge it so time will tell. Maybe an Ausi Liberty manual EZ30 ECU I donno...

Yeah then the Vipec would be a better option because it would run the engine all alone and I could keep the stock harness and disconnect all the auto crap and still use it for the cluster, lights, HVAC, etc... Then I would just need to add a neutral switch to the park switch so it will start and wire in the reverse lights. It’s doable. It’s just expensive and a lot of time. I would probably have to swap and re-wire the ABS pump for a manual version like you do in a WRX or redo the entire system and run no ABS... None of my other cars ever had ABS so that’s not a big deal for me but I’f have to figure out if I could get a Non-ABS Brighton MC to fit… Meh, I'll let that one marinate for a few months before I give it any more real thought lol...

After the lego is done I need a new set of wheels and tires for the MR2

P45R2 18x10 +12 Front with 15mm Spacers and 235/40/18 Toyo R888

P45R3 18x12 +0 Rear with 275/35/18 Toyo R888

MMM sticky rubber……
