USDM OBXT 08 Grill options? Mesh grill

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Ive ran into great OBXT recently. Great condition, I like it. But 08-09 OB XT have a new design grill and it sets me back: chromed, and different shape from previous years. I know I can plastidip it, but I'd like to know if there's any options? I would like to have a mesh grill, but cannot find anyone did it before.

Options?

Chrome grill on USDM OBXT:

What I want:

I see that 08-09 OB XT have a straing like at the botom with chrome part, and previous have a cut for grill. older looks way better to me, but may be I will change my opinion when I see some modded MY08.

I was in your position before I bought my 08 I didn't like the new face lift. It's just plasti-dipped but the 08-09 face grill has grown on me. The up side is the 08-09 have aux port, no catted uppipe, SI drive,

yea, 08-09 have some cool benefits.

Black on black looking really cool! Btw, that OBXT I was looking on was Black too.

With plastidipped grill it looks way way better. I might photoshop some mesh grill, when I buy it.

If you REALLY hate it, can always buy the front panels of an older gen outback/legacy and swap it on. Can get back to an aluminum hood that way too.

I've also been planning a 3d printed honeycomb "cover", but haven't had the time. A grill on my desk would make it way easier to design though, if anyone knows where to get one inexpensively.

Yes, please print one for me too when that happens. Thanks in advance.

I might be able to eventually lend you mine (at least two months away). I need to remove my front bumper to repaint it and the grill would come off at the same time.

Plus, I have been driving significantly less lately so no grill for a couple weeks wouldn't really be a problem.

Dang. No worries! Someone in the jdm thread posted some honeycomb mesh they'd used and I think I might try to grab a junk yard grill and cut out the slats or something. Was just hoping someone had managed something first.

He's referring to this.

Definitely an option. I think the honeycomb linked in the jdm thread looks a bit better and is possibly cheaper. Since apparently the crown vic grill is a little small for the facelift and the outback facelift looks to have an even bigger grill.
