SubOperator
Not exactly Subaru specific news, mods feel free to move. Some 3 and 6 ton HF jack stands are being recalled. I am sure there are people here who have them (I own both kinds). NORULZleggy
Old school race car guys always told me to put your stock wheel or you wheel under the frame of the car just in case this happens. It is a must. I always keep my jack tight also.

Febreze Mee
What's crazy is I had 4 of these recalled stands holding my Outback 3-clicks off the ground so I could flush the trans and diff fluid. I was under that car. Glad I know now. MILKRUN - Click Here
DrD123
on the plus side, it sounds like the stand bases aren't collapsing, just dropping down to their minimum height (which could be really bad, but maybe not as bad as falling all the way down)
ehsnils
Here's a video about how and why they fail: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn7FPbT2fxQ]Harbor Freight Jackstand RECALL- Tested, Failure Analysis, Returned! - YouTube[/ame]
boxkita
i had this failure on the miata at the track. Unexpected drop was scary as jacks were full height. Thankfully no one was under at the time. We pulled the jack from service & bought another set. Build my car Boxkita Track days
