Aluminum control arm boss

So I was given a set of aluminum control arms for free. So might as well but them on right?

 

Taking off one of the ball joints the metal “boss” came out with the ball joint. And pushing/hitting it back in will not make it flush with the control arm.

 

So basically that spherical spacer/boss that goes where the ball joint bolts through. Is it suppose to be flush with the control arm? Or does it stick out bout 1-2mm.

 

Of course the other side I didn’t have this problem and I would have to tear it back apart to check. So guess taking my shot on here to see if anyone knows or has a set laying around.

You might have a burr or something preventing it from sitting flush, as the aluminum is very soft. But regardless, you definitely need those to prevent damage to the control arm.

I checked for burrs any it didn’t have any. I also sanded it to get really soft and the inside of the control arm to get the little bit of corrosion off of it. Still no go.

 

But I did check the other one and it doesn’t fit flush either so I’m assuming it’s suppose to be like that? Idk lol

Looked back at old pictures from my install; they definitely sit flush. I bought brand new inserts for used control arms. There could be part to part variations, or a part revision that changed them to be flush, but that's probably a longshot.

Actually if I’m not mistaken, those are also raised about 1mm up. I opened up the pic in a new tab and zoomed in to see the full resolution. It’s either sitting up or something is reflecting on it down there.
