Car buying process step by step

Greetings,

Can someone please advise me on the process of buying a car? This could turn into a sticky.

1. Find what you like online.

2. Check carfax via VIN. Test drive.

3. Negotiate the price.

4. Sign papers..

What are the further proper steps for:

-getting a loan from a bank if you finance separately

-getting plates for the car. (Can you just use yours as a temp?)

-what if the car is in a different state? (I am in NH and car is in MA)

-getting insurance..
