Connor's '05 LGT Wagon

Recommended Posts

Took it out to Blackhawk again last Thursday, still doing great. First time out with the 6speed swap, was a bit annoying on such a tight track, definitely had to shift more.

Didn't take any videos, but recorded laps for the firs time. Best of the day was a 1:23.6

Not much new. Didn't touch it much since driving it at Blackhawk in August, gave it a quick prep for a day at Road America last Thursday. Was quite cold (low 40s) and very windy, but was super beautiful when the sun came out. Blasting down thunder valley during peak fall colors was a very cool experience.

It was my first time out on a "big" track, so I didn't take any videos or record lap times. Just had fun and did my best not to break anything. Had new G-Loc R12 pads in for this one, which is the most aggressive brake pad I've used so far. Way more consistent brake feel and allowed me to stand on the pedal corner after corner (until I boiled my 2.5 year old RBF660).

During the third session I had started to gain more confidence with the track and my new brake compound, so I was pushing a bit harder. Heading into turn 12 I thought my brakes were softening up, and confirmed by 14 that they weren't all there. Instead of pulling in to pit I decided to gamble and see if they would firm up after the long front straight heading into turn 1. The session was almost over so I figured I would ride it out. As I closed the front straight in the upper 130mph range my brake pedal went to the floor. Fortunately I suspected it was coming so I left some extra room before the corner, pumped like a madman and started grabbing gears. I managed to scrub enough speed to keep all four on pavement and relaxed until I got to the exit lane on turn 5. I decided to skip my last session of the day and head home while I was ahead.

I was also expecting that track day to have been the final nail in the coffin for my 180k mile factory longblock, but it didn't miss a beat the entire day and drove home without any issues.

After I left, my buddy had a mishap coming out of turn 8. Had a tank slapper in his C5 and over corrected into a concrete wall. Fortunately he was physically fine, but the car is toast. Was a bit of an eye opener for how fast a good day can turn bad. The only other write off I saw was a new Camaro ZL1 that pitched it into a tire wall on the second corner of the out lap on our first session.

Some winter projects for the car will be finally installing the rear strut tower brace and Cusco rear floor brace, stripping out the hodgepodge of audio wiring thats been in the car since long before I bought it, sending out the DCCDPro for reprogramming so I can use the factory center diff controls on my STI center console, installing my Kartboy 6MT short shifter, finishing some interior projects.

I also pulled the trigger on a new engine after being indecisive about whether I blow up the one I have first, it should be finished and ready to pick up next week. I went with a local shop (Topshelf Performance) for the assembly.

-IAG closed deck case

-Bored/honed to 99.75

-Manley extreme duty pistons

-Manley Turbo Tuff H beam rods

-King XPG main and rod bearings

-New STI crankshaft

-12mm STI oil pump

-ARP 625 headstuds

-KillerB pickup and windage tray (probably will replace with IAG comp)

-Supertech valves

-GSC titanium springs & retainers

-GSC 272/272 cams

-ATI super damper

Supposedly the ceiling on that engine should be in the 700+ whp range, I plan to just add Cobb flexfuel to my existing setup which should put me into the low/mid 400whp (plenty, for now).

I compromised when I bought these Enkei's for daily wheels, as they were the right specs and design, but the wrong color. Didn't really want black wheels, and REALLY didn't want silver wheels. Its been a while since I've had the gold BBS's on. I like that more I think...

I'd prefer a dark gray metallic. Don't want silver with my silver calipers, gold I think is too flashy for a "daily" wheel (which is dumb because I only drive it on the street once every couple months). I ordered a set of Madrig's carbon quarters and will be doing the fenders once he has them ready, so that means any wheel setup I have now effectively has an expiration date. I also am debating diving down the 5x114.3 rabbit hole at some point, which again would mean a "reset" on any wheels.

Guess I'll live with the black Enkei's for now!:rolleyes:

I'm actually trying to buy one of boxkita's cars and need to drive my rearend up to his shop to see it. The shell would replace my RBP sedan with silver PF01s. My struggle there is that the shell is already silver and I'm unsure if the silver on silver will clash.

What are the Enkei specs?

These are OZ Leggera HLT 17x8s, but are available in 18x8, both +45 offset.

It's definitely not a bright silver wheel, these are as bright as they get. I personally would have preferred something brighter, but liked these over the pf01. Overall still really happy, and I'm kinda surprised more people don't run these.

Same spec, my Enkei's are 18x8 +45. I originally had ordered Advan TC-4s in an 18x8.5 +45 in gunmetal, but I got tired waiting after nearly three months and cancelled the order to buy something that was actually available in-stock.

Those OZ's do look great!

I'd suggest checking out his thread in the "exterior/aesthetic" sub-forum. I won't be installing these for a while. My first order of operation is to get the new closed deck engine in, but I need another ~$3800 of "stuff" before that can happen, then I'd like to wait for the fenders to be made before I proceed with the quarters, and also convert to the JDM S402 front end in the process. I also plan to have the whole car painted when the quarters and body panels are all installed.

Oh, and we just started building a house. So my rampant and reckless spending habits need to chill until the lenders stop analyzing my bank accounts...

Haven't touched the Legacy, although I've bought more parts for it. Decided I liked my daily driver enough to try and ruin it. Wrapped the whole thing in matte SunTek Ultra paint protection film, put some OZ rally raids on it and have a lift kit coming. Gonna do one of those trendy overland builds I think and ruin how nice it is to drive along the way.
