mindaugas
I accidentally over filled the oil. Is it safe to drive it carefully not going over 3k rpm about 2 miles to get the oil changed?
johnAWD
Just get under the car and let some drain. Remove plug, drain, replace plug, check level. Repeat as needed.

apexi
How much do you think you overfilled by? How much oil did you put in
Whatisit
id pull off the oil filter and pull out oil that way. (should get you about 1/4 to 1/2 a quart at a time). how much did you over fill it?
mindaugas
the dip stick was bone dry so I started adding half a quart at a time, running the motor for about 30 seconds going a little past idle then checking. I ended up putting 3 qurts in. I ran the car longer and the dip stick came out soaked. if I can manage to get under to take some out I will. maybe I'll just do the oil change myself but I was thinking about doing a full tune up if it doesn't cost too much at a shop. I bought this car on the cheap just for something during bad weather. I commute by bike otherwise.
ehsnils
Oil shall be filled and checked with the engine turned off.
mindaugas
the car wasn't on while I checked the oil. I was just running the motor in between checking the oil and filling it.
JoeFromPA
Mindaugus - Sounds like you are significantly overfilled. It would be wise to not drive the car without draining some of that oil. If you can loosen your oil filter, that should allow you to drain about 1/2 quart out of the car at a time.
mindaugas
Thanks, I can use the jack stand and an old pot to get some oil out. The problem is disposing of the oil. The shop is down hill, maybe I can roll it down there lol.
