KermitDrivesASubbie
Ok, I think I finally grasp the concept that I can not gain much power from Scubie. /Facepalm . So, let's move to suspension... Best for cheapest struts for an 04 legacy nt ? Best ball joints and tie rods? Sway links? I'm doing good on tires.... could use a full set of 4 but I have 2 pairs within .4mm of each other and was told by the Subaru specialist it is fine. But if I can't go faster, I must go deeper.......in the woods. Lol. Enter every one yelling at me about how Subaru is for light off road only. I know, tell it to my muffler that scrapes to reassure me that I had better take it easy, damn saggy butt. Deep puddles and muddy or Stony trails....or 6 foot tall grass to make a bed for your tent (pics on Instagram) and mud pits you would think twice about in your Jeep. LMAO. RumbleRumble
The only real options are KYBs or coilovers, OEM ball joints are 30-40$ each and for after market TRW, AC Delco profession line, delphi.
RustyRuu
if you wanna do more off road things look into a LSD, i can't remember if the anniversary edition had one or not, and if you wanna get real serious ZF design just came out with a locker for Subaru. 4th gen fronts from a turbo model will bolt up and give you a bit stiffer feels but the rear tophats don't match up. if you want more off road capability also don't change your sway bars, or find smaller ones, or ditch em all together. smaller bars will allow for your suspension to behave more independently and allow for more independent flex and travel. Boar of War
I've been tackling this nut for a bit and from what I've researched the 05 to 07 struts and springs will fit if the 00 to 04 top hats are used. Havent tried yet, so if someone has please chime in! Outback springs and struts from the same vintage as ours bolt right in for a little bit of a height boost, keep your eyes peeled for a good doner car and maybe snag some taller sidewall tires at the same time. The 35th has an open diff up front and the viscous snot box in the center, iirc a wrx has a better one up front dont quote me on that tho.
KermitDrivesASubbie
So about the rears.....I may have to buy spacers to raise to level out? So 05-07 outback struts will bolt right in. Any ideal of the lift height? Off topic, any idea if the 05 impreza exhaust will fit my 04? And what is mutant edition? I need to know.
Boar of War
You shouldn't need spacers for the back, if you find an outback sedan it will be level, a wagon will have a slight ass up look, to see the difference just park next to an outback! Just remember you need to use the 00 to 04 top hats if you use 05 to 07 struts. No clue on impreza exhaust, I would plan on going custom. If you are trying to do this on the cheap, find a donor car unbolt the fart pipe clean it up and cut and replace each section you are looking to upgrade, muffler cats with lor restriction units ect. The ebay 2.5rs dual port headers will fit, they take some finagling and stretching but they do fit, spend some time giving them a good coat of heat resistant paint or exhaust wrap for added insurance. Rignt now i have parts from 6 different subarus on my car, imprezas, legacys, wrx. And a tribeca have all donated. Next up is grabbing front brakes off an 05 leggy gt and rear 2 piston brembos off an sti. Hence the Mutant edition moniker, I was going to get one of those "5hitbox Edition" badges off ebay but the wife says this fits better
KermitDrivesASubbie
Excuse my newb question, I use shock as is off the outback and take the mounts from the outback as well? Meh, I guess this is where YouTube is my friend. Thank you super much. About the brake system. What bolts right on?
Boar of War
Theres some good threads in the archive section on this, i havent really dug in physically to verify yet, but i am told pretty much any 00 to 08 fronts the rears require changing out the backing plate or using an adapter to get a different caliper. I will post a walkthrough when I start knocking bolts loose.
Jacobpockros
Best cheapest struts/shocks for 3G Legacy are KYB GR-2. They are 15% stiffer than stock and the same brand that are used on OEM shocks for usdm cars.
