Legacy GT BL9 Ebay "Bolt on FMIC"

Recommended Posts

The kit said "bolt on". I do not know what it "bolts" to, but it's not my car. I looked everything over and decided I need some more tubing. I bought another intercooler piping kit from Ebay and here is what I have come up with. You will not have fun insatlling the FMIC with just what is supplied in the box. Still I have just under 500 invested in a huge FMIC.

Kind of in place. I have the cooler zip tied for the time being.

The two pieces that came for this side were cut and altered to clear the frame and still make it in between the coolant overflow and the timing cover. Might have worked if I did not have the aftermarket radiator.

Bumper required extensive mods. I would not undertake this project without access to a press. After the bumper bar was cut the bumper closed up about 5/8 of an inch. Press was needed to force it back open, so the bolts would line up.

Got some more pipe fitting done. All piping is close enough that I can pull it in the future and have some sections welded to eliminate some silicon.

Passenger side fittings done and one extra section used to complete bend. This will also allow the CIA to fit back in place.

Looking up trough fender on pass side.

View from throttle body side. There will be an HKS BOV mounted where the black circle is.

Looking between Rad and timing cover from pass side of car.

Small section custom fit to clear AC hose and timing cover. Like I said, I can pull piping in the future and weld a few sections together and lose some couplers.

interesting, not the route i would have taken but always beneficial to see others and where they go with things.

I would have done something differently too, first off I may have spent a little more and got a better fitting unit. Intercooler is HUGE and fitting was a challenge.

The God Speed kit came with a 3 inch pipe from the bend at the timing cover and the rad. I used the 2.5 from the extra kit I bought. Made things a lot easier to fit.

Made some brackets to keep the intercooler in place. Now I need to weld on the flange for the BOV and button everything back up. Then get it tuned.

too bad that crash beam cover 1/3 of the core. nice brackets

The bumper cover occupies the same space. The air should still flow through the bottom opening.

I'm trolling? You actually said it keeps the bumper beam for the most part.

IMHO, X02 kept the bumper beam "for the most part". This is a complete bumper beam chop up, although a beautifully done choped up bumper beam. I trust it do the job of the uncut beam about as much as I trust my Perrin bumper beam, not much.

If you want a big core, great, but lets not pretend that this keeps most of the bumper beam intact.

EDIT: If you want a big core and are willing to chop up the bumper beam you could also consider getting one custom made for you for a little more $$$. As for covering the core, anyone who has had their bumper skin off knows that the bumper beam area is unavoidable to cover without some hideous holes cut in the bumper.

*most part

most pieces of the bumper beam is still there:lol:....well i was thinking about boxing in the cut portion

all you put was  wut & wtf:lol:

*and its spelled what:lol:

I will box in the bumper at a later time. I need anew bottle of gas for my tig welder. I can have a section formed at work to fill it in.

he also bought intercooler piping kit, so its the kit + additional piping

Yes I bought an extra piping kit. The one on the cold side with the kit was 3 inch. I physically do not have room to fit 3 inch pipe between my timing cover and the rad. I have the Mishimoto rad and it is twice as thick as the stock one. I really dont know how much swearing and throwing of tools would have taken place without extra piping.

Well, I think after all the cutting and trimming, we have a finished product. Adios to the driving lights and a lot of the front bumper cover.

Get some HID's and you will not miss the driving lights. I don't even use mine sine I got the HID's. Nicely done! Looks good.

You might consider brushing some black paint on the brackets where you can see them though the grill. Also, thats a big, low opening to that IC. Might consider some mesh like what you have in your grill, down in the bumper. It saved me from a big rock once.

I was looking at the straps and will probably black them out. I can get some mesh from work to cover the bottom openings. Just needed to get it together so I can have this thing tuned. Been working on it for 4 months and now I want to drive it.
