mattcornelison
I have researched on the forum. I see that you are able to put the cubby mount for a radio and it leaves the stock in my question is what type of harness do you need for this and how to wire it to keep climate controls working and where can it be bought and where can the mount be bought. I saw the Kit to remove stock unit but i dont think its worth the 350. thanks

TheBlackPearl
******EDIT****** ^^ That won't work for people with auto climate controls, only manual. My bad! Well, it's not JDM so I'm sure alot of ppl will hate on it, but here's another alternative to dropping $300 to install a $350 dollar DVD player.... http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/vehicle-search-results/?applicationGuideID=13619&make=SUBARU&year=2005&model=LEGACY+%28Rotary+A%2FC+Controls%29 Self proclaimed PNW Craiglist find of the day Champion, April 2014. AkumaMax
So have people spliced wires from the factory harness(after looking up pin out) and ran them to the cubby to do a head unit No need to cut up the factory harness. Just go out and buy 1 of these: http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/678 2 of these and wire them all together. (1 end to your new radio, 1 end to the old radio) Don't know if you can run both at the same time without blowing a fuse.: http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/679 Then the only other thing is the Antenna: https://www.google.com/shopping/product/2798000714224994271?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=WFe&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sclient=psy-ab&q=car%20antenna%20%20y%20adapter&oq=car+antenna++y+adapter&gs_l=serp.3...108752.109644.0.110562.3.3.0.0.0.0.150.416.0j3.3.0...0.0...1c.1.Dvf7FWlNDsY&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bpcl=38897761&biw=1024&bih=618&sa=X&ei=zvCwUOXTBOKMyQHploEo&ved=0CGIQ8wIwAA or this way http://www.cartoys.com/products/product.cfm/Metra-car-audio-installation-kits/METRA_Ltd_40_UV44_Motorola_Antenna_Y_adapter/se/1/?mr:trackingCode=9B803EC4-C281-DE11-9973-0019B9C2BEFD&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:ad=15769877819&mr:keyword=&mr:match=&mr:filter=43163012939

Drift Motion
you can get all the wires needed for cubby HU install from the SVXDC? guy on this forum
2.5GT_dude
^^^^this. He'll also provide instructions with the wiring as well. It's almost better and easier getting the JDM unit to replace the factory stereo. you can always switch back to stock stereo resale the JDM unit for a fair price. Having two radios looks dumb IMHO

SVXdc
Those harnesses from Scosche won't cut it -- both genders are missing the ORANGE/WHITE illumination(-) lead. The OEM HU and HVAC controls require that for their lighting to work. Also, those antenna adapters won't work -- Legacy/Outback HUs use Subaru's proprietary antenna connector. See this thread. Pics in the first post are currently dead, but there is discussion and pictures later about the harnesses. To connect your new HU to the car's antenna, you'll want a Subaru antenna adapter (I have those too). I don't recommend trying to keep the OEM radio connected to the antenna -- just switch to the new HU. It's better to contact me via e-mail. See my homepage.
