5th Gen Ownership - Official Random Thoughts Thread - V3

I see the same thing in both my LGT and the opposite in my Titan. I have mountainous interstate though so the mpg readout can change week-to-week depending on weather/air temp changes. In the Titan I get better a avg @ 75 then I do @ 70/80 or below/above.... So I stick to 75 in the truck and 70 in the LGT, mostly because the interstate limit is 65 mph and the LGT attacts state troopers more then the truck does. Since most cops around here hate Subarus with hood scoops because 90% are driven by "kids" that think 25 mph over is the only way! But to local police it's ok for huge trucks to drive 20+ over.... even though it's 5 x's more dangerous....
Interesting, I find that 83 is the ideal fuel efficiency speed for my '10 lgt, average a solid 23.5. The car requires too much throttle modulation to maintain speed below that point I think. Though my svt focus manages 22ish regardless of speed, and that car is never treated nicely, nor does it have an overdrive.. Weird.

My best mpg was around 60-70 mph and steadily dropped above that. 80 mph is about 3k rpm which is right about where boost starts to really build with my tune, so I'm guessing that's why it goes down. Your 23 number seems very low, even for that speed. Hopefully your other thread solves that problem.

Before the tune I managed 34mpg around 70mph, and dropped to 28ish mpg above 80. Now I can only get about 26mpg at 75mph... haven't gone slower to see how much better it could do

@coco26 fingers crossed it does, the best I've ever seen with the car was about 27.5 in the first couple of months I owned it, steadily declining since. I do have an absolute behemoth of a right boot however...

on stock tune i got my best 28.2mpg on a pure highway drive where i was mostly going between 80 and 90. during the almost 50k miles i've had the car i average 23.2 though, city and around town driving kills any fuel efficiency this car has

When I bought my GT, it had 245's on it. My FE improved about 2mpg with stock sized 225 tires. I average about 24mpg, highway trips going 65-75 mph about 27mpg. My fuel economy is better at 65mpg than 75mph. One trip I make regularly, the 55mph speed limit section the cops tend to give more tickets so I keep my speeds down.

Just got approved for a new place to live, going to sign the lease this evening. Several big improvements over where I'm living now, including in unit washer/dryer, multiple floors, front and rear deck, and most importantly, AN ATTACHED TWO CAR GARAGE. This is monumental for me for a few reason, first of which is that my Legacy has lived outdoors in a parking lot for the entire 4.75 years I've owned it, and moreso that I myself have lived in the same place for the last 17 years. I moved into my current place with my dad when I was still in high school, took over the lease when I turned 21, and have lived there ever since (turning 34 in 4 days).

I don't know if I'll ever actually be a home-owner, but this is a substantial improvement in QOL, and I'm beyond eager to feel like I've finally begun living the rest of my life. Pictures of the new place (featuring Legacy in a garage for the first time ever!) coming soon.

So awesome, the garage is always a major selling point for me! Congrats man, it's a game changer having an indoor space like that! The garage was a definite selling point on my place, it's actually about 200 sq. feet bigger than the house lol97213e83597b470fce8f44e716c8968e.jpg

I just got my new-to-me 2010 LGT back after some significant repairs (new engine cradle, front control arms, etc). The car is noticeably more quite on the highway now, but I have started to notice the turbo whine for the first time. It is very subtle, a barely audible high pitched whine that increases with RPMs, but I do not remember hearing it prior to the repairs. I did also install a skid plate (Primitive), which definitely could be reflecting some of that turbo sound back into the interior.

This is my first turbo car, is this normal, or should I prepare myself mentally, emotionally, and financially for another repair :)?

I can hear the turbo when building boost, but that's not necessarily tied to engine rpm, and is more of a whooshing sound than a whine... do you have a boost gauge? I don't have a metal skid plate on mine, so no idea if that changes the sound. Are you running something other than stock for the turboback?

That turbo noise is normal, it would be a very obvious sound if the bearing was going bad. If its increasing with RPMs, that means you need to press the gas harder so it spools up all at once ;)

The skidplate is probably echoing the noise back more than previous, but I've also noticed when I have a very small exhaust leak, it seems to be louder and a little bit lower in the rpm range when it starts to spool. If you can't hear anything that sounds like an exhaust leak standing next to the car, you're probably good to go.

I went out and started it up cold on ramps, but with the skid plate on, there is a slight exhaust leak in the general vicinity of the turbo/exhaust manifold, but it becomes inaudible within 30 seconds once things start to heat up. I do have a boost gauge through my iDatalink connection to the head unit, and I have confirmed it gets louder as boost increases.

I'm not going to worry about it, I'll be swapping-out the existing header, turbo, and intake later in the year with a slightly used twin-scroll setup. I just want the stock setup to last me until then!

I’ve been out of the loop for awhile and just saw this, congrats.

I’ve spent every weekend for 3 months back in KC getting the house ready to sell. Completely repainted the inside except the cabinets and staircase. Looks awesome now and will be sad to see it go.

The GT has basically just been back and forth to KC (just under 2 hr drive). And the long 20 second drive to the shop....it’s too cold to walk [emoji3063][emoji1]

In case anyone wants to know, I've moved onto in a new car to modify and enjoy in terms of being an enthusiast. 91' mustang gt, 105k, 5spd, black interior.

Minor new parts like wheels, tires, clutch, and a different exhaust, it's mostly stock.

No huge plans yet except give the interior a thorough run through and replace some trim. Upgraded/updated gauge cluster. Then bring the suspension up to date and then maybe a 5lug conversion for more wheel choices. Get a good stereo in it and go cruisin' :)14b4ec519549d328b7061376c93b1f3e.jpg

I was driving home from the in-laws a few days ago and started to hear a distinct cracking sound every couple of minutes. I pulled over several times to secure things in the trunk (it was full of stuff), but couldn't figure it out.

Tonight I just went out to the grocery store and was hearing the cracking sound every 5-10 seconds. It sounds like there was some ice stuck between the trunk lid and the rear window, but to my dismay I was able to repeatedly make the sound by firmly pushing down on the bottom area of the rear window. The window is definitely not cracked, so I think it has something to do with the foam and adhesive that keeps the rear window attached. Does this sound right? If so, I guess I'll be taking this to a glass specialist to reinstall?

I ordered a new Jeep Wrangler for my girlfriend. I put the down payment on it for her birthday. Now, it is the waiting game. I just have to fix the rear struts on her Highlander and sell it privately.

Specs on the Wrangler?
