08 STI rear subframe = 05 LGT rear subframe?

A little back story: When I was looking at buying my 05 wagon, I test drove an 04 STi. If it wasn't for the blurring effect of the rear passenger, I would have bought it. About 3 years ago, my wagon went thru a major suspension overhaul which came out nicely. However, the 18x9.5 wheels didn't fit. In same garage where we were trying to fit them, there was an 08 STi with 18x9.5 wheels that fit great. Needless to say, I wasn't happy.

Then I saw this (pic for 99 to 2007). If this is possible, why can't the rear subframe for a LGT be combined with STi suspension mounting points. reading the parts manuals for an 08 STi indicates its based on the 05 LGT with a few changes.

So, how few changes? I need to find a rear subframe from an 05 LGT & one from an 08 STi. Measure them. Then find a shop to mock something up.

'08 GRB and '05 LGT are not the same rear subframe by a very long way. The GRB subframe doesn't even fit the GH8.

It's pretty unique unfortunately.

Subject: RE: Rear Subframe for 2008+ Impreza?

Hello Boxkita,

Currently at this time we do not have plans to make a subframe for this model. Cost and development will be quite high to put into production. 50-60$k range.

To do a 1-off unit we are looking at around 10$k and 10+ weeks lead time.

I know that is a lot to swallow, the only way the costs can come down is if there are more people interested that commit with a 3000$ deposit, final cost to be determined upon completion of project.

More people interested, the more we can develop and make a better product, or put into standard production.

Even a production version of this frame would be in the 3500 - 4000$ range due to it's size and the assembly required to make it fit properly with out twisting and distorting.

Let me know if you wish to discuss further over the telephone.

Well that was a short-lived idea. :-)
