madrig
this thread is for information on installation of the legacy wagon quarter panel composite extended . so why wider fenders ? the look is definitely attractive in most case but this idea was guided by functionality. my car is not a garage queen , so it need to perform , in all weather and on some horrible roads . but we all can say this is an equation of desired stance , wheels availability and functionality. the wheels specs for start . to understand correctly , the rear fender are wider in the rear as oem spec , so i extended fender to be equal front to rear. the front was extended 30 mm and the rear 20 mm . so 20 mm to rear dont seem a lot but it is . with the composite panel you saving the roll edge so you can be flush with the panel . madrig
of course you need to remove you metal panel ! the end of the pillar of the composite panel is made to overlap the metal pillar , so do the cut under the overlap. make blank prefit before bonding . you can not really place it wrong ! follow of the oem points for guidance . madrig
in order to replace the quarter panel you will need to remove rear bumper side skirt wheel guard tail light , plastic cover , seal , disconnect gate shock . inner trunk carpet , inner side cover . rear sill door , rubber trim . exterior trim window guard and removal of the rear quarter glass . most difficult is to remove the rear glass . the glass is made with exterior trim as one piece . you need to acces by inside to cut the seal and is very far inside . also plastic pin for install are there and will be cut same time as the seal . madrig
for bonding the panel i used 3m epoxy glue 08115 , it is available in most small store and supplier and the quality is very good . there is other that i use , devcon or sci grip but is more expensive and not available to everybody . dont forget since some place will be barre metal after preparation to coat any place that will not receive glue , it will rust and cause later problem . you will need to reuse the lacht bracket . remove it from the metal panel by drilling the spot weld and bond it with epoxy on the new panel . when bonding be sure you keep the ajustment play of the nuts . there nothing particular in order to bond the panel . the panel align itself , just double check the door gap and respect the over lap bond on C and D pillar .
