Bad Viscous Coupler?

Recommended Posts

While replacing my exhaust I discovered that when the car is up in the air on jack stands if I turn it on in park and don’t use the parking brake the rear wheels are rotating. If I rev the motor they rotate faster. Parking brake stops all this. When it’s on the ground you can’t notice this behavior. My buddy said I may have a bad viscous coupler. Does that sounds right? Other thoughts?

Is it an AT or MT? Can you hold the wheels by hand to stop the rotation?

Sometimes there's a little friction between incoming and outgoing causing the rotation to occur.

It you can hold the wheels with your hand I wouldn't worry.

If you engage the parking brake when the wheels rotates - do the engine rpm change? If it doesn't then it shouldn't be a problem.

The AT gearbox on the GT has a planetary center differential with an electrically controlled clutch pack for proportional diff lock action. In park there's no point in getting the diff lock to engage.
