What did you buy for your 5th gen today? - V3

Bought this roof flashing material from Home Depot. 0.5 by 25ft long. It was only $17 bucks. Looks like a cheap shot to try it as sound deadening the car. Gonna try it on a older car first that’s much noisier.

That stuff off-gasses an asphalt smell. Typically sound deadening material specifically for auto use does not, as it's designed specifically for auto use.

don't do it.... Gteaser is dead on, even after months of drying, if it gets hot enough it'll start to smell again. Also.. from someone who has done it before... it leaks, it stays sort of pliable so if you put it on the top of the inside of your trunk it has good potential to leak.

Good to know. I won’t use it in the GT then. Our old Mpv got all kinds of smells anyway. I think the one I bought isn’t asphalt based, it’s more multipurpose tape. I opened it up for a whiff, smell nothing and the adhesive feels more like 3m tape than “sticky” tar. Still will give it a shot on the Mazda. I’ll be happy if it can dampen noise just a little. Fwiw, it’s this one.

I don't want to be a jerk, but that tape has 0 sound deadening qualities.

You think so? It’s 2mm thick with aluminum top. The 25ft roll weights about 8 lbs too. I figured if I overlap it, it’s gotta add some benefit.

if you wanna use it .. go for it.. I could get into the differences and the reasons why a butyl based deadner is made for cars, but I won't because i'm sure you can google, and it been stated before in here. However if you wanna try it... Just dooo it.

Maybe another thing to consider would be how hard would it be to take off if it fails?

I went a little crazy last night and might have bought the rear Koni shocks to go with the front inserts and Eibach's I have...and the Group N front and rear top mounts, and anything else I would need to do an install. A local 5th gen LGT guy offered to lend me a hand with the install. Not exactly sure when install will happen. I will report back after for sure.

Zee, I'm sorry it took me almost two years to install the strut inserts I bought from you

To go along with these, I still have the plethora of bushings I need to install as well.

After that, I'm probably gonna save towards the exhaust so I can then just focus on the few (ha, yeah right) appearance things I'd like to change.

Had to buy a front set of rotors. my old ones wore out in like 6 months. Went with DBA (4654S-10) 4000 Series with Hawk ceramic pads.

I think the stainless steel lines and cylinder brace were too much for them. this thing stops on a dime.

Kinda bought something for the car. Maker Geeks in Springfield, MO is running a 20% off sale through the end of the day. They have a high heat PLA (HTPLA) that is much easier to print than PETG. Hoping to finally make some parts for the car that can stand up to summer heat.
