Those things would normally be under the intake where they are impossible to work on?

 

No, the three sensors are normally mounted on that strut tower and are connected to the intake with just some vacuum hoses. But only certain motors came with them installed there, I think on the later 2.5s they were somewhere else in the engine bay

Say Brighton, when you had the lifter tick did you actually attack that problem with the engine installed?

 

I'd had the tick come and go a couple times throughout the time I've had the car and every time I've dealt with it, the motor has been installed. I just pull the valve cover and rocker assembly, then just clean the crap out of the rocker arms and flush the HLAs. There's plenty of space in the engine bay to get them in and out.

Awesome, thanks for the info, I've got a lifter tick and I was worried that pulling the engine would be the easiest way to get at this. Not sure I believe you that there is "plenty" of room, but I believe there is enough!

Haha yeah it's not too bad, but my word choice could have been better. There's not enough space to get anything other than a 3/8 ratchet in there but that's all you really need. Just can't torque stuff back to spec exactly since you can't get a torque wrench in there

Not a whole lot went on in the past few days but I did put in 1/8th of a tank of E85 with the rest of the fuel being 91 octane which is what normally gets run in it. So far I put about 70 miles on it and it's running pretty happily, a little more pep but not a quantifiable amount. Also my baseline MPG is 18.4-18.5 for how I drive around town so we'll see after a few weeks of different gas mixtures.

Finally did something about the interior! I gutted the interior, shampooed the carpets and seats, dyed the carpet, layed in more sound deadening and then installed the new seats!

 

Two ish years ago I tried changing the color of the carpet using the dupli color carpet paint and it faded back to normal in about 6months, so this time I used Synthetic fiber dye, so fingers crossed that it lasts longer.

whered you get those other seats? pretty nice! I managed to get a nice set of leather outback seats for mine.

 

I was set on getting leather seats so that way I could have a complete set and maybe get heated seats, but all the ones I found had tears and worn out foam on the drivers seat, but while I was at the honeyhole junkyard up by Pittsburgh in PA, they had a totaled 07 wrx and luckily it had only been there a month, so the seats hadn't gotten ruined by the fact that someone removed some of the doors.

My 99 2.5 has them mounted there. The fuel pressure sensor is a bugger when that stupid hose comes off and throws a random CEL. It's come off once since I rebuilt the engine, so if it does again, I'll just zip tie it on :lol:

Weekly update! I FINALLY found the right Low Pressure AC hose and then got the rest of the AC system installed. I put a little pressure into the system and it doesn't leak! I also have the results of running an 1/8 of a tank of E85. I ran the car to about 1/4 empty and then refilled with regular 91 so once that's empty I'll try another mixture. But with the 2gal of E85 I went up to 19.11mpg with the same driving conditions, so not a huge difference from 18.4 but still something. I honestly think the driving conditions were worse when I had the E85 in the tank so not sure how to quantify that...

It rained most of the day today so I wasn't able to do as much as I would have liked but I got the GT sway bar installed with the original bushings, unfortunately the polyurethane bushings didn't work out since they are just too generic to be modified. I also degreased the engine bay and underside. I got the AC system filled with the OE spec oil and then recharged it, so I finally have nice cold air for the first time in a couple years!

Yep, I don't have any of the stock airbox stuff in the fender because it looks dumb and also I have a lot of the wiring harness and relays hidden in that fender. So I no longer have the space for it.

Ah. I just put mine back together because car wasn't running right after I did it, and apparently it messes with MAF readings lol. Sounded a lot meaner though

Sorta Daily Update!

 

The new drivers impreza seat had a broken height adjuster handle, and being that a replacement handle costs more than what I paid for both the seat combined, I decided to make a new aluminum handle. It's not finished yet but should be done in the next couple days.

I also finally motivated myself enough to rebuild the rear drum brakes but sort of ended up chasing cancerous rust instead...

I saw there was a little rust coming through the seam sealer/undercoating so I started digging into it and this is what I found.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to remove the strut/brake lines to cut out the rest of the rust and weld in a new section of metal so for now I just ground all the rust down, treated it with rust killer and then sealed it up with mesh, JB weld and another coat of undercoating (yes I know that's ghetto)
