So my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world a month ago. It has been a crazy few weeks but overall has been an amazing and life changing event. I know some people don’t like to bombarded by baby photos from new parents so I will keep it to a minimum. I know I’m not super active on here but I generally spend at least a little time on this forum everyday and you all feel like good friends so I thought I would share.

Sorta an interesting read here. Certainly will help Subaru in the future - no more to compete with on a sport car/sedan level at least here in the U.S.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-26/what-would-henry-think-ford-is-about-to-abandon-american-sedans

It's certainly a surprising move if they follow through - in 2017 they sold 209600 fusions and 158400 focus's... the icon they are saving (the mustang) sold about half of the focus volume at 81900 cars... I get it that the profit margin is larger on trucks, but throwing away that kind of market share seems penny wise and pound foolish... if gas prices rise again (which they almost certainly will) or if the CAFE standards are put back where they were and continue getting more stringent (only a few more years of Trump left...), Ford is setting themselves up to get absolutely hammered. You'd think the wisdom of having a diverse product portfolio would overrule the current course of action, but apparently not.

I'd be interested to know what their manufacturing capacity is in other countries- from what I understand, they're going to continue to sell most of those vehicles overseas, so if gas goes up here and people want Fiestas again, Ford could be in a position to just import everything. Depending on the cost of labor where they're importing from, that could end up being a net cost savings, without the backlash from suddenly moving production out of the country and cutting a bunch of jobs.

Do you know they have a Ford manufacture plant in Germany.

I think what they are really doing is shifting production to small CUVs like the escape, cmax, things that will resemble the cars they replace but focus more on size, utility, and comfort vs styling and performance. CAFE standards or not most compact SUVs will continue to improve in fuel mileage and probably move toward hybrid or plug-in hybrid technologies, Trump or no Trump the marketplace is not as short-sighted as some policy decisions.

Either way electric is much easier to program and implement new technology into.

Chitown Subaru had their Big Meet this weekend. Surprising number of 5th gens turned out! Had a little Legacy pre-meet up as well. Here's all the 5th gen related stuff I found at the meet. Pretty fun event.

Interesting note: that silver GT with the hood open has a serious build on it: FMIC, Brembos, low mount GTX30 turbo set up (or something like that, I don't know turbos), and most surprisingly: an STI 6-speed swap, meaning there are two STI 6-speed 5th gens in the country now. This 5th gen was built by the same shop that recently built the 860 hp VA STI, and this 5th gen is putting down 470 hp as of it's last dyno run. Sadly the owner is not a much of a facebook/internet person. The shop has a write up on the car somewhere which I'm going to bug them about to find.

Hey Humble, are there any other meets coming up this summer by you? I would run down for one if I'm free.

What side of the city are you on? I forgot if you told me already.

There's bound to be a bunch, find Chitown Subarus (specifically "Subarus", as Chitown Subies is a different group) on Facebook to keep up on the local events. They throw tons of events throughout the year.

I myself am in Schaumburg, about 30-45 minutes west of the city itself. A lot of the meets are pretty central to my general area and the surrounding townships.

I feel like I've probably missed a lot from the forums the past few weeks. Been going crazy with getting home stuff done. Finished up painting last week. Almost every outlet and switch replaced (my charger would just fall out of the wall, they we're so old) Thankfully the wiring's updated for the most part. Grounds on all outlets. GTeaser I figured out my electrical issue, in case you we're wondering. Buddy of mine came over and helped.

Had to reseal around the sink because they used this lovely honey colored looking sealant on a white counter. Just so much little things. Building IKEA dressers. Painting until my head hurts. One day I might be able to just have a beer in the garage and stare at my clean car

The Legacy is going in Weds for serpentine belt tensioner and the EGR leak. An update on the oil consumption...there's been none. I thought maybe they overfilled it. In 600 miles I hadn't lost any. I may just stick with a semi-synthetic and if it's only a quart every few thousand I'll leave it at that or if not, run conventional and just changed every 3k miles. It's almost 500 miles after I last checked. If she's still full or just a bit lower, should be all good.

Hmm, had I known this was a thing (I don't do the facebooks), I may have made the trek down. Seems like a pretty good showing!

Also, I'm seeing a Six-Star license plate frame on that silver GT- I believe that same shop did the work on SomeZero's car as well, haven't seen him around in a while. Would definitely be interesting to see how their STI 6MT swap compares to BBPeik's, although I'd imagine things have to be pretty similar.

They're the same shop that did my brakes and my Koni install to. Literally a 2 minute drive down the street from my house. They said they blew up the stock trans at 420 hp, which is what forced them to do the STI trans. Said that everything had to be fabbed for it, much in line with what Brendan had to do.

Just got back from a very quick business trip to Houston (actually between Sweeny and Brazoria). On our way back to the airport we ate lunch at Dimassi's. We really need that chain to expand to Kansas City. I've never seen a mediterranean buffet of that size before. Very cool.

If you're back in town, try Fadi's as well. Really good Mediterranean food
