SteveM
On my 2005 Legacy (non-GT) wagon, there is a secondary air filter built into the air filter housing. It has a part number 16565aa03a on it. Looking it up, all I can find is that it is discontinued: http://www.lovesubaruparts.com/Subaru-OEM-Part-Number-16565AA03A-FLTR-AIR-CLNR-p/16565aa03a.htm Well, that and a bunch of Russian language web sites. If this is discontinued, what are you supposed to do? Buy the entire housing (which includes the air flow sensor)? Steve
KRM
Found this part number after a quick search.46052AG04A. And seems to replace the number you posted. This is the upper housing included for about $50 on ebay
apexi
That's part of the pzev system designed to capture (or neutralize?) combustion chamber gases that try to escape through the intake when you shut your car off. I wouldn't really invent any money into replacing it, especially since I think you have to replace the whole assembly it's built into if you wanted to. http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/attachments/problems-maintenance/19989d1307485821-filter-mesh-behind-air-filter-pzev-intake.jpg
SteveM
OK, thanks for clearing that up. I may want to replace it as after 120,000 miles, it probably has some dirt in it. I cleaned it off with my shop vac, and that made it noticeably cleaner, but I'm sure there are small particles embedded in it. Steve
