Am I hurting my turbo car?

Recommended Posts

Spark plugs will start to become an issue, rather soon, as idling isn't good for a long period of time. Not to mention the gas consumption and CO entering the vehicle while you are sitting there.

Personally, I'd advise against...but, that's just my opinion.

Besides wasting gas, building up carbon in the cylinders, gravity's effect on the horizontal pistons....you do the math.

It seems those of us with high miles without engine problems, don't let our cars idle for very long.

Now I do coast a lot going downhill on the backroads, but the longest that is for is maybe a minute and a half.

IMO its not good to let these cars idle. In case you didn't get that. ;)

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

Your turbo is not doing much at idle. The main problems with extended idling is spark plugs & valves fouling with carbon and oil getting diluted with water and fuel from blow-by. Keep the oil changed and drive the car at speed every day and should not be an issue. This is why the Italian Tune-up was invented.
