uptown4784
might be a dumb question but do you guys put regular or premium?
hkshooter
Calls for 87 minimum unless towing, then 91. Why would anyone use more expensive fuel than called for?
uptown4784
because it has turbo lol
Dubwars
After driving Audi’s and Volkswagen’s for the the past 15 years, I’m looking good forward to not pumping premium fuel when I go to fill my first tank. (still on the tank of gas the dealership sold me the car)
caddygti16v
Having a turbo nowadays is no reason for higher fuel grade anymore. Comes up all the time and seems hard to accept for people somehow. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Emaurer
Looks like the recommended fuel is regular. I don't think there is a need to put premium in unless you have an aftermarket tune that requires it.
Jp1975
might be a dumb question but do you guys put regular or premium? I mix it up each time. Makes me feel better since I’ve used premium the last 15 years. The stations I go to have 3 levels, regular, medium, premium and I just alternate. For now I can afford a few cents a gallon difference in price, but I don’t commute long distances. Peace of mind is worth a few cents.
tomk
Just regular for me, if it doesn't call for it I don't see any reason to use premium. Averaging 29.5 mpg over 3500 miles.
laufu
On the east coast, we get 87 as our lowest octane (aka regular) but when I visited Utah, I saw their "regular" fuel was 85. I think the mid-grade was 88 and premium was 91. Anyone out west use 85 octane in their XTs? And if you did, do you notice any performance lose? caddygti16v
You guys south of the border are still pretty spoiled with fuel prices. Just regular 87 where I live in Canada is $5.63 a gallon (Canadian $) and up to $6.50 for 94 with no ethanol. Stuff
Also tried the cheaper 15% ethanol 88 (E15). Gas mileage dropped about 20% so cost per mile went up.
BeauCharles
I've tried both 87 regular and 91 premium. Didn't notice any difference in performance or smoothness of throttle response.
Limeymike
Running the 15% ethenol fuel will drop MPGs. The savings per gallon are lost in the cost per mile overall. Unless you want to support the corn growers I see no reason to run the stuff.
xt2005bonbon
If you put a lower octane gas, then the ECU will pull some timing due to knock, which translates into some loss of torque and power. However, if Subaru optimized the FA24 engine's tune to run lower octane gas, then yeah (somewhat) pointless to put higher octane gas. But that also means there is power left on the table. When I moved from the East coast to the West coast, I manually removed a couple degrees of timing on my tune when 93 was no longer available. I felt the loss of torque. That was on an 05 and an 06 OBXT.
caddygti16v
2020+ FA24 engine ECU doesn't compensate for higher than 87 octane fuels according to Cobb tuning. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
RaptorOO7
I'm glad I can have turbo power without turbo fuel costs for 91 octane especially with fuel costs right now. But for me the pandemic has had me working at home for nearly 2 year so I have saved a ton fuel dry cleaning, mileage.
RaptorOO7
Given fuel costs I'm glad I don't have to use premium fuel with a turbo. Always use the recommended fuel.
blusubado
why isn't the option to change the speed volume control in my settings? in the 2022 touring xt I'm baffled it's not an option
