WileyKyle
After my turbo died we cleaned out the metal, replaced the turbo and put in a prosport halo series oil pressure gauge. The oil pressure gets up to about 70 psi on the highway and drops to around 10 psi at idle. Otherwise in ranges anywhere in there depending on the engine rpm. Does this sound normal? bigleben
I get that reading too at idle Correct me if I'm wrong but the oil pressure dashlight appears at ±4 psi which is already too late.
frank_ster
stock it will be about 40 psi idle . 10 psi hot idle is on the low side .. are codes poping up for the cam advance ? lieutenantcolumbo
Mine is usually at about 20psi idle, cold or highway 80-90psi. I have my low pressure alarm set for 15psi. Could be your gauge is off. Also don't run a supposedly thin oil like Mobil 1 either.
MrHellrais3R
warmed up idle is normally around 40 and under throttle up to 95. Where did you mount your gauge sender?

Don't like the filter adapter mounts. It was a beeeatch so I am quite content to leave it there.

MrHellrais3R
the rear galley is ideal for these engines.

I have the sender mounted on an oil filter sandwich plate, and I'm running Rotella T6 5W-40.
WileyKyle
We mounted the sender in place of the stock pressure sender. No codes are popping up, but the turbo is making a wining noise when it spools. Got to almost 80psi on the highway today.
dmanaenk
Spec is 14+ psi @600rpm, 43+ psi @5k rpm.

dmanaenk
Shouldn't be seeing 90s, since relief valve is set @85psi. It's probably gauge's error though.
1SIKLGT
I wonder if I'm on borrowed time http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/01/09/15bc27e0ec95eb2168b730d4bbedbc58.jpg 8° weather. 10psi idle. 400mi before oil change is due. Usually idles at 15-20psi. And maxes at 40-45psi at wot.
frank_ster
The 45 psi at rpm is scary . Anything happen to the car ? Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
ras06LGT
I've got my sender mounted under the alternator at the stock switch location. Warm idle I'm around 20-22 psi, and 75-80 psi cruising on the highway. 45 psi at WOT and high RPM would worry me a little bit, although it's technically within Subaru's spec. Maybe it's an early sign of pickup tube failure.
1SIKLGT
I'll probably start with an oil pick up...see if it gets better. Car has 117k, nothing has happened to the car...although it was involved in a fender bender 2 summers ago. Got hit from the rear. Maybe the impact damaged the pick up tube?? 4thgengt
New to subarus.. My car idlels at 80 psi cold and goes down to around 40 at warm idel Is that normal?
frank_ster
^ yep The hot idle oil pressure seems a bit high. Are you running recomended grade of oil ? Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader

TimmyMo
Does anyone have any pics or walk throughs of a oil pressure sending unit install? I'm about to install an oil pressure and an oil temp gauge and it would really help. Cheers!

TimmyMo
Thanks a lot! That helps a lot! Do you know where to tie in the sending unit(s) of you don't want to use a sandwich adapter?
JJr
Why not use a sandwich adapter? What gauge/s are you using?
frank_ster
If you want oil pressure the oil pressure switch is next to the altenator you could just install a tee if you want oil light and oil pressure. Oil trmperature you could install in the oil pan Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
