Kellen11
At first I thought it was a boost leak. Then I thought it was an exhaust leak. Been chasing this screech noise under full boost for 3 months now. My only logical conclusion is it’s the famous waste gate crack. What should I do from here? How much power am I losing? JmP6889928
None. Virtually all IHI turbos have wastegate cracks in them. Unless it's all the way up to the gasket surface, you aren't losing any boost.
seanyb505
Your post doesn't sound like you've proven it has a crack, just that it's a conclusion you've come to. Have you laid eyes on the crack?
subydrift
I had a pretty gnarly screech/whistle under boost and it was my lower up-pipe gasket. I took the whole exhaust apart, cleaned all the surfaces and put new gaskets in torqued to spec and it hasn’t made the sound since.
Kellen11
Is there supposed to be a gasket where the intercooler meets the turbo? I might also check my exhaust
Carlz0r
From memory, there is an o-ring seal on the turbo side of the TMIC.

Carlz0r
You'll need part 7 from this page. If you're missing it, that could very well be your whistling problem, which would also mean your car is running richer than it should be (due to MAF reading more air than is actually reaching the engine). I can’t seem to find a link to purchase the gasket
JmP6889928
Put this gasket between the intercooler and the turbo and you'll never have another leak. It's reusable forever. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-738g?seid=srese1&cm_mmc=pla-google-_-shopping-_-srese1-_-mr-gasket&gclid=CjwKCAjw85zdBRB6EiwAov3RigT4jTYSjj5LsczWhtbCZLtl4NIUwOF-3SZYmtQY8ExR2Y5X4UE_ERoC-gUQAvD_BwE

Gnarly screeching at near full boost = most likely compressor wheel contact with housing. How is the play in the shaft? If you have a boost gauge, you can indirectly verify this by watching your peak boost. Since contact with the housing adds friction, the turbo will not build to peak boost, maybe missing it by 2 or 3 psi. If it is this, start planning your turbo replacement.
