Recommended Posts

Update 9-29-2017:

  1. Got broken Photobook or other image "host site" links in your walk-through thread, or "Need Help" posts?
  2. Still want to use these images on the site?
  3. Do you need to put these images in an exact spot in your posts?

See Post 3 for a walk-through on how to combine the Attachmenthttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gifLoad and the Image http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gifLoad features to put photos precisely where you want them in your posts.

Update 9-27-2017:

Note (1): Fixed broken Photobucket image loads.

Note (2): Using your LegacyGT.com gallery to load photos

If you are a Donating or Premium Donating member, and keep a gallery of your pictures loaded on the site, you can select any picture's URL and use the "Insert Image" icon http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif feature to place your LegacyGT.com gallery photos anywhere in your posts.

Note (3): Using Tapatalk to load photos from your phone

TT's latest update no longer allows you to load your photos to the site from your phone. Your photos are held on TT's server. You may be able to locate the TT URL for your pictures and use the URL load feature (see post 2 below) in Manage Attachments, but you can no longer direct load your photos from your phone using TT.

_______________________________________________________

Update 6-20-2016: File Upload sizes have increased as follows, all else remains the same

You can use the Manual- or Auto-load process to upload these file types to the Site's server. Note the size increases

Good luck and LMK if you have any questions.

This is a walk-through to enable members to manually (this post) or automatically (see post 2 below) load pictures to the Site's server, from any storage media, or off-site host site, to any thread or post on the site.

It is specifically applicable to all Member Classified For Sale threads, which require all photos to be loaded (not linked), but is equally applicable to the many, many amazing and detailed walk-throughs, and examples, or "this is what it looks like" photos, that our members create and post.

Our Member Classified Rules, and site-links to specific FS sub-forum rules, are located here

Reminder

  • Linked or off-site hosted photos are not permitted in any Member Marketplace and are removed where found

  • Ensure you use this process to upload your photos

To permanently load pictures to the Site's server, use the http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gif(Manage Attachments) process, which creates a permanent presence on our Site server.

If you use the http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif Insert Image feature it only creates a "link" to an offsite location, i.e., Tapatalk, Photobucket, Flickr, etc..

Unfortunately, over time, accounts go inactive or are closed, individual bandwidth gets exceeded, or something happens to "break" the link to your pictures and the thread or post becomes a :needpics: instead.

To avoid this, do the following to load photos to your For Sale thread or to any post:

MANUAL LOAD PROCESS

1. In your post, Click Edit

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227169&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

2. Then Click Go Advanced

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227170&d=1459025035

3. At the top of your edit screen Click the Paperclip Icon http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gif

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227171&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

4. When you Click http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gif- this opens the Manage Attachments Window

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227172&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

5. If you are loading pictures from your computer, tablet, or your phone, you'll use the Upload File from your Computer portion of Manage Attachments. Click on the first Browse button. See Note on Tapatalk below

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227173&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

6. This will open your file explorer. Browse to where your photos are located and choose your first item. Click Open. This will take you back to the Manage Attachments window. If you have other photos to upload, then click on the second Browse and repeat the "choose" process, up to ten (10) times.

7. When you have chosen all of photos (up to 10), then Click the Upload button. This will load all photos to the Site's server and to your post. Repeat to add additional photos, up to 20 photos total.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227174&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

8. After you have chosen and loaded all your photos or files, Click Close this Window at the top of the Manage Attachments window. This will take you back to your post.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227186&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

9. Click Preview Post to review your post. If everything is okay, then click Submit New Thread or Save This Post as appropriate. The manual load process is complete.

Note (1):

.gif uploads, file size is limited to 11.44MB (2400x2400)

.jpg uploads, file size is limited to 7.64MB (6400x6400)

.pdf uploads, file size is limited to 1.22MB

.csv uploads, file size is limited to 1.56MB

If during the Manual Load process, you get a "token" issue, or your photos won't load, then resize them using any photo editor to 2400x2400 (.gif) or 6400x6400 (.jpg) and upload the resized photo. Once resized they should load without issue.

Note (2): You'll be able to verify that your photos or files are loaded to the site by looking at the bottom of your post. There you'll see a box labeled Attached Thumbnails (see the bottom of post 2 below as an example). You can also mouse over your pictures and each one will have a http://legacygt.com/... address.

Similar to the Manual Load process above, this walk-through demonstrates how to automatically load pictures to the Site's server, from any hosted picture site, to any thread or post on the site.

AUTO-LOAD PROCESS

1. In your post, Click Edit

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227179&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

2. Then Click Go Advanced

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227180&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

3. At the top of your edit screen Click the Paperclip Icon http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gif

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227181&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

4. When you Click http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gif- this opens the Manage Attachments Window

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227182&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

5. To auto-load photos to the Site's server, use the Upload File from a URL (UFFU) portion of Manage Attachments. Scroll down and put your cursor in the first UFFU box.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227183&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

6. In a New browser window, open your photo-host site and navigate to your photos.

7. In your photo-host site, Right Click your first photo and choose View Image, which will open your photo in another screen

8. In the browser's address bar Copy that photo's URL address. Ensure that there is either a .jpg or .gif suffix at the end of your URL address.

9. Switch over to your LegacyGT.com Manage Attachment window and Paste the copied photo URL into the UFFU box.

10. Repeat a second time for your next picture. Then Click Upload

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227184&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

11. You can load up to 20 pictures per post. After you have chosen and loaded all your photos, Click Close this Window at the top of the Manage Attachments window. This will take you back to your post.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=227185&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1465433427

12. Click Preview Post to review your post. If everything is okay, then click Submit New Thread or Save This Post as appropriate. The auto-load process is complete.

Note (1): This process has no size limit. However, your photo URL address must end in .jpg or the file will not upload

Note (2): Like the Manual-Load process, you'll be able to verify that your photos or files are loaded to the site by looking at the bottom of your post. There you'll see your photos visible in a box labeled Attached Thumbnails. You can also mouse over your pictures and each one will have a http://legacygt.com/... address.

  • Got broken Photobook or other image "host site" links in your walk-through thread, or "Need Help" posts?
  • Still want to use these images on the site?
  • Do you need to put these images in an exact spot in your posts?

Combine the Attachmenthttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gifLoad and the Image Load http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif features to put photos precisely where you want them in your posts.

Here's how to do it. It's a work-around, and a bit back-and-forth initially, but once you do it, it gets very easy to get exactly the results you want. I'd do this on a computer, but you can do it on your tablet or phone, as long as you can have two browser windows open and can select and copy photo links.

  • Where you have broken image links, open your original thread, Click Edit, Go Advanced > http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gifAttachments. The Manage Attachment window will open.

  • Open your PB account to your 1st photo.

  • Right click and copy that photo's image link. Make sure that there's a .jpg suffix, if not, then right click your photo and choose View Image. Then right click and copy that image link.

  • Paste the URL link into one of the two Upload File from URL address bars in Manage Attachment window. Do this with your 2nd photo, then >Click Upload.

  • Do this as many times as necessary to get all of your PB photos loaded to the site's server, then > Click Close this Window in your Manage Attachments window.

  • > Click Preview Post and you should see all of your PB photos loaded into the Thumbnail area at the bottom of your thread. If something is missing, then reopen Manage Attachments and load the additional photos and close Manage Attachments and > Click Preview Post to verify that all photos are loaded.

  • If all of your photos are loaded, then > Click Submit Reply.

  • Open a second copy of your thread, I just drag the thread URL into a New Tab > Once your copy thread opens, > Click Edit in whatever post you want to insert your pictures.

  • Scroll to where your 1st picture (position 1)will be and delete the PB notification that your link is broken. Put your cursor where you want your picture to load.

  • > Click http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif and leave that address bar open

  • Go back to your original thread. Right click the photo that you want to place in position 1 in your thread, then right click that and copy the image link

  • Go back to your copy thread, paste that image link into the http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif address bar, and > Click OK. Your photo will load exactly where you have your mouse cursor and you'll see your picture appear in the edit window

  • Repeat this process until all of your photos are loaded to your thread in the sequence that you want them, where you want them.

  • > Click Preview Post and if everything is good, then > Click Submit Reply. Your thread will now have all of your PB photos reinstalled in your thread, where you want them, and you'll also have all of your photos resident for posterity in the Thumbnail area.

This process ensures that PB can't break the link again, and enables you to put your photos exactly where you want them in your posts.

LMK if you have any questions.

Why aren't we supposed to link photos and load them instead? Is there a difference between loading a URL and BB code linking one?

The difference is that once they're loaded to the site's server they're permanent.

As mentioned in the first post above, linked photos can be taken down, links can be broken, and then the photos are gone. This is particularly critical in our Member Classified section where the integrity of the information and photos within the FS thread needs to remain intact, before and after the sale. It's the same reason that we don't delete anything in our FS threads. Once it's there, it's there and it's archived whole.

The other reason is that we have a lot of members creating important how-to walk-throughs with numerous photo-steps included. Many of those with linked photos are now empty shells because the link was broken (account closed, URL moved, photos on the host-site were deleted, etc.).

It takes a few extra seconds to load the photo(s) to the site, but the benefit is definitely worth it.

TL;DR

To your specific question, the URL load feature, within Manage Attachments, permanently loads the photo to the site's server, linked photos do not.

Got broken photo links?

Need a walk-through on how to renew your photos and put them precisely where you want within your posts?

See Post 3 for a tutorial that combines the Attachmenthttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/attach.gifLoad and the Image http://legacygt.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gifLoad features to put photos where you want them in your posts?

Newer iPhones use a propietary process that embeds location and other meta data into its pictures - so not a true .JPG and the site's MA app sees it as a non-picture file.

The only workaround that I'm aware of with newer Apple devices is literally, paste the pic into another application, e.g. PowerPoint, create a completely flat file, and save that picture as a .JPG, then upload that file. Crazy, I know, but until the site's OS is upgraded, that's where it stands.

How does Tapatalk interact with the MA from an iPhone?

Since PB decided to scru its users, I'm posting this up.

Update: These are 2 extensions - Chrome and Firefox - I found and tested (on Chrome only) that work. Add the extensions and fotobucket links start working again. Posted on the Legacy Centrals site, so 'should' be legit:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fix/

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-hotlink-fix/kegnjbncdcliihbemealioapbifiaedg

Also, I originally had this info:

If you find broken Failbucket image links and want to see the pics, try putting "~original" after the ".jpg" in the IMG tags.

Thanks to Mr. P. Olsen on NASIOC who states this works 90% of the time ('til PB finds out?).

see attached.

I'm having this problem too. Just took tons of pics for a classified ad on my iPhone 7 and they won't upload. Also, I have the "Live" option in the camera app turned off. Is there a fix for this yet?

Oh, and why is legacygt.com so opposed to outside pic hosting?

iPhone embeds locational data in the pictures. They're no longer true jpgs. Flat file the pic in another program and save it as a jpg. Workaround, but it works.

If you have outside hosting, then use Manage Attachments to load the pics from the off-site host using Load from URL. How to in on the Home Page.

Please take a moment to review the rules at the top of the classifieds section. Pictures need to be uploaded directly to the site server. Linked pictures through Tapatalk, Flickr, imgur, etc are not allowed. GLWS, beautiful wheels.

So let me get this straight; If you don't have a laptop/desktop or an Android/Microsoft phone, you're not welcome to use the marketplace?

If you have an iPhone, you have to transfer your pictures to your PC to post them because you require them to be posted to the Speak'N'Spell server for marketplace ads.

Why????? This is the stupidest rule in the history of forum rules.

Also, as a donator I was told I would not see advertisements. BUT to post pictures on the forum I have to use Tapatalk which is loaded with advertisements.

Can I have my $30 back?

I’ve run into this with the updated iPhones and MacOS. What it thinks is a legit jpeg and what this site thinks is a legit jpeg are two totally different things. I’ve had to resort to using an online website to convert images to jpeg, and that seems to work. As this forum software ages, it’s just gonna get harder and harder.

What does "invalid file" mean when attempting to upload photos? Using the same camera and resizing the pictures as I did previously except not I get an "invalid file"message

Do you know what a valid file is? Its not that

I had to recently upgade my OS on my Mac and that's when the problems started. What are the names of these magic websites that can transform the pics?

I use https://heictojpg.com/

I convert to jpg, then resize down 50%.

That almost always works, just wish it was fewer steps; seriously limits how many images I post.

I want to figure out how to fix it (if possible) on my Mac, because I'm not crazy about having to upload my images to one site for conversion, just to get another site to host them.
