1996legacyL
So my Buddy got a 1996 Subaru Legacy L 2.2L with 4EAT and reverse went out. So I pulled a 4EAT out of a 1997 Subaru Legacy outback also 2.2L with 4EAT and pulled it from a junk yard. My question is are these transmissions the same? I'm having trouble getting it to mate to the engine. The input shaft had a small extra little lip on it, so I'm wondering if that's why it's not going all the way in. any input would be very much greatly appreciated. if anyone has any info on this. otherwise the transmissions look identical. the input shaft on the old tranny was a little grinded down on the gear teeth. Do I need a different input shaft on the 96 Legacy L instead of using one from a 1997 Legacy outback? Please help and thank you so much for any info and stay safe out there... Brighton96
They should be the same, but did you separate the torque converter from either trans? Because they are tricky to get to seat fully.
