Wheels losing air pressure

Recommended Posts

Thanx for the reply, no no bent rims but two of the rims constantly loose air over time. I have had them polished on the bead area last time I had new tires installed but about 6 months later it started again. I'm guessing its just something I'll have to live with, I would hate to buy a couple of more wheels and end up with the same problem.

Is the tire shop using snot on the bead area when mounting? I've never had a problem with this on my Subaru. I did have a problem with it in the mid 80s on a Peugeot. They were doing just as you describe every few months, then switching to a shop that used a sealant fixed the problem for good.

Also, consider the stems and valves for slow leaks.

You may have to take the time and check them yourself. Take a tire off, fill it up to 45 or 50 psi. The increased pressure will help mimic the tire being on the car. Spray the tire with soapy water and check for bubbles. If it's a slow leak, be patient and you will find an accumulation of very small bubbles.
