Max Capacity
'm thinking that JDM is not going to work well for you. I'm no expert but may be someone who is will chime in. I see someone else is asking the same question. https://www.subaruoutback.org/threads/will-this-engine-fit-my-09-outback.526956/ Edited November 24, 2020 by Max Capacity 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. boxkita
swapping a jdm engine seems simple but it never is. It's not the purchase price that kills ya, its everything else. Build my car Boxkita Track days

Tehnation
its a 2.5 sohc! the issues with the jdm usdm swap for us gt guys is when they try to swap a 2.0 into our 2.5 setups. For what this guy is doing , its pretty much the same motor.
dgoodhue
I don't know the difference between the JDM and USDM 2.5i. The key would be make sure the camshafts, heads and compression ratio are the same for the motor being removed and it has AVCS. If you are going to have to start swapping those parts around, you might as well get a new $1800 short block from Subaru. Tuning 2.5i is not that common so you want something matches up, not some that is close enough that you can tune it out.
blackobxt
The last issues I had with installing a customer supplied jdm ej sohc was the jdm didn’t have egr or provisions for it, just a blank boss. Customer said he was ok with a cel, I used the usdm intake manifold and wiring harness and plugged the egr port on it and out the door it drove. I don’t think it spent even 2.5hrs in my bay.
